Shavasan – Corpse pose – Relaxation

Well it is easy for you to get relaxed which would eventually lead to sound sleep within 10
minutes without any pills. There is an exercise for this. Before going to bed switchoff light or
atleast dim it, lie down on a bed, close your eyes and fully concentrate on your body. To
achieve concentration count, by heart, from 1 to 10. Now focus on each of your body parts
by saying it to relax, it instantly gets relaxed.

Start from right toe, say toe is relaxed, sole is relaxed, heel is relaxed, the whole foot is
relaxed, ankle is relaxed, calf is relaxed, knee is relaxed, thigh is relaxed; the whole leg is
relaxed. Immediately you will feel relaxed. Likewise repeat the same procedure for the left
leg as well. Now say both the legs are relaxed.

Now do it for right hand. Say index finger is relaxed, middle finger is relaxed, ring finger is
relaxed, small finger is relaxed, thumb is relaxed, palm is relaxed, knuckles are relaxed; the
whole right hand is relaxed. Now say wrist is relaxed, forearm is relaxed, elbow is relaxed,
biceps are relaxed, triceps are relaxed, shoulder is relaxed; the whole right arm is relaxed.
Repeat the same procedure for left arm also. Now say both the arms are relaxed.

Now focus on pelvis. Say pelvis is relaxed, buttocks are relaxed, colon is relaxed, kidneys are
relaxed, stomach is relaxed, esophagus is relaxed, liver is relaxed, spleen is relaxed, lungs
are relaxed, diaphragm is relaxed, pancreas is relaxed, abdomen is relaxed, spinal cord is
relaxed, lower back is relaxed, upper back is relaxed, rib cage is relaxed; the whole upper
body is relaxed.

Now turn to head. Say neck is relaxed, throat is relaxed, thyroid glands are relaxed, chin is
relaxed, cheeks are relaxed, jaws are relaxed, lips are relaxed, tongue is relaxed, nose is
relaxed, eyes are relaxed, ears are relaxed, scalp is relaxed, cranium is relaxed, temples are
relaxed; the whole of the head is relaxed.

Now say complete body is fully relaxed as one unit and there is no fear, worry or stress or
pain in my body.

My guarantee is that before covering whole body you will fall asleep. Make sure that
whenever you are saying a body part to relax, fully concentrate on that part only. After
finishing of the whole process just remain in that state for a few minutes to enjoy the
relaxation fully. Then count 1 to 5 and slowly open your eyes and get up if you want.
Practice this every night and soon you will no longer be an insomniac and that too without
any sleeping pills.
