● When rock underneath abruptly splits around a fault,
earthquakes are normally induced. The seismic waves that
make the earth quake triggers this unexpected burst of energy.
They stick a little while two blocks of rock or two plates are
rubbing against each other.
d. What causes these to happen?
● A sudden slip on a fault triggers an earthquake. There is an
earthquake as the stress on the edge overcomes the tension
that releases energy into waves that move through the surface
of the earth and cause the shake we experience.
e. What happens during the disaster itself? When giving your
explanation, avoid using words that are too technical or scientific.
Your explanation should be easy enough to be understood by
everyone. It is best to use your own words. You may see an example
of what a non-technical explanation means here.
● As they travel through it, the seismic waves rock the ground,
and as the waves hit the surface of the earth, they shake the
earth and everything on it, including our houses and us!
f. What were the effects of these disasters on people? On the place?
You may research pictures to show the effects of these disasters on
people, and on the place.
● Destruction

g. What did the government and other institutions do to help during

this disaster? Was it effective?

platform and discuss your findings.
6. Gather all information from your group mates and use all important data
and information from each one of you in creating your presentation.
7. Check the sample of the presentation that you have to create here.
8. Make sure that you apply the Basic Research Method when conducting
your research. Such research is needed, because this will be the basis for all
the succeeding activities, and introduction part of your Disaster
Preparedness Plan.
9. Properly name your file in this format: Section_LastName_FirstName
(example: D-12AM-1 STEM_HernaezRegina).
10. Once you are done, submit your work in the submission bin posted in your
Google Classroom.
