implement or promote a product, it may make the situation worse.

Let’s look at a manufacturing firm that would like to produce items that are
not biodegradable, such as soda in cans or plastic bottles. If there is already
a high risk for pollution, as evidenced by limited or no landfills, like the ones
in the US, this can be tremendously problematic.

Consider the example of Coca-Cola whose label is stenciled on every small

storefront, which has several shelves stocked with plastic bottles and
products manufactured by the company. While the company has ensured
that the delivery and supply chains are strong, no system is in place to
manage and recycle waste. Even landfills are missing. As a result, the roads
and ditches of the country are littered with trashed plastic bottles and the
locals burn garbage during the dry season.

In this example, the Coca-Cola company is failing the locals by delivering

products and collecting profits without addressing the waste issue. Despite
having a social responsibility department at the corporate office, the
company continually fails to acknowledge or address the waste problems it
creates.
