Air Asia Flight from Surabaya to Singapore Loses Contact


1. What happened to the Air Asia flight QZ 8501?
The Air Asia flight QZ 8501 was lost over the java sea, it was seen on the radar until all
contact was lost completely.

2. When did the accident happen?


The accident happened on Sunday, 28th December 2014.

3. How many people were on the plane? Where did they come from?
The flight was carrying 162 people, including 155 passengers were Indonesian, South
Korean, Singaporean and British , 2 pilots were Indonesian and French national, and 5
Indonesian flight crews.

4. What did the Indonesian Air Force do to search for the plane?
In intention to search for the plane, Indonesian Air Force has sent a Boeing 737
Airplane and the searcher will be expanded to the surrounding areas.

5. What did the Transportation Minister say about this situation?


The transportation minister, Ignasius Jonan stated that the search was focused on
Belitung Island, in an area between Bangka Belitung and Tanjung Pandan.

The Airbus A320-200 Jet was supposed to arrive at 8.30 A.M Singapore time, according
to Air Asia, it lost contact with the air traffic control at 7.24 A.M but Indonesia’s
transportation ministry claimed it was at 6.17 A.M. While J.A Barata, the
transportation ministry spokesman said that the plane was flying at 32.000 feet when
it asked permission at 6.12 A.M to fly 6.000 feet higher to avoid clouds. The airbus was
seen on the radar until it losing contact with the control tower at 6.17 A.M while still
visible on the ADS-B radar. Finally at 6.18 A.M all contact with the flight was lost.
