Simple Past and Past Continuous.

Example:
a. He (write) ………………. a letter at home and (send)……………. it to the post office.
He wrote a letter at home and sent it to the post office.
b. While they (have)……………..dinner at the restaurant, the storm (strike)……… the town.
While they were having dinner at the restaurant, while the storm was striking the town.
