EXPLANATION OF OUR PROPOSAL
There is a need to manage all the garbage bins that
are present all over the city to be properly managed
to reduce the costs they spend on clearing the
garbage bins and to reduce the man power that are
involved now in this work. This can be done by
interfacing cloud computing with IOT and machine
learning where the truck drivers get their roadmap
which shows the efficient path to be followed and
collect the garbage bins quickly to save time and
least travelled path to save fuel.
EXPLANATION OF OUR PROPOSAL
This project is helpful in Government of India major
initiative “SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN”. In order to achieve
smart city development and implementation of various
technologies are to be used and this project will be helpful
with regard to waste management.
Continuously monitors the level of solid waste present in
the garbage bins sends the required data to the concerned
authorities to collect the solid waste accumulated in
garbage bins. The cost and the man power used in this
process is less. The amount of cost spent on fuel is reduced
due to less travel rather than entire travel to garbage bins.
This helps to keep our surroundings clean and tidy
ARCHITECTURE
3.1 - SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
It consists of an ultrasonic sensor which detects the level of garbage
present in each of the garbage bin. The data obtained from
ultrasonic sensor is then sent to node mcu where node mcu acts as
the system controller. When the garbage bins are almost full or
already full then it sends a warning message to municipality
authorities to collect the solid waste present in garbage bins. The
message received by the municipality authorities contain a text
message and the location of the garbage bin in the form of a google
map location link. An LED present at each garbage bin helps to get
to know about the level of each garbage bin to local residents.
The block diagram given below shows monitoring system.
ARCHITECTURE
3.2 - SYSTEM PROCESS FLOW
At initial level ultrasonic sensor detects the level of garbage bin i.e. the
height of waste accumulated in garbage bins. In this project we have taken
that if the garbage bin reaches 90% of its threshold value then it will send
an alert message to the municipality authorities in the form of text and link
to location of the bin. At ground level to the residents who are living nearby
and are using it a display is placed near to the bin which indicated the level
of the bin. When the project is scaled on a large extent it is difficult to know
about the exact location of the bin from which message is received even if
some codes were given to each bin. So in order to rectify this we have used
GPS module to get the live location of the garbage bin via text message in
the form of a link. The entire process is controlled by central unit node mcu
which controls the entire work done by each component.
HARDWARE USED
Ultrasonic Sensor
The Ultrasonic Sensor sends out a high-frequency sound pulse and then times
how long it takes for the echo of the sound to reflect back. The sensor has 2
openings on its front. One opening transmits ultrasonic waves, (like a tiny
speaker), the other receives them, (like a tiny microphone). The speed of sound
is approximately 341 meters (1100 feet) per second in air. The ultrasonic sensor
uses this information along with the time difference between sending and
receiving the sound pulse to determine the distance to an object.
GSM Module
It is used to send message to the garbage depot if the Garbage Can
exceeds the set threshold level. With the help of GSM module interfaced,
we can send short text messages to the required municipal office. GSM
module is provided by sim uses the mobile service provider and sends
SMS to the respective authorities as per programmed. It operates at
either the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz frequency band.
Node MCU
This module has a powerful enough onboard processing and storage capability
that allows it to be integrated with the sensors and other application specific
devices through its GPIOs with minimal development upfront and minimal
loading during runtime. This is where the entire process takes place and it acts
as mother board to the circuit.
GPS Module
A satellite navigation device colloquially called a GPS receiver, or
simply a GPS, is a device that is capable of receiving information from
GNSS satellites and then to calculate the device's geographical
position. Using suitable software, the device may display the position
on a map, and it may offer routing directions. It sends the exact
location of garbage bin via google map link.
LCD Display
A liquid
crystal display (LCD) has liquid crystal material sandwiched
between two sheets of glass. Without any voltage applied between
transparent electrodes, liquid crystal molecules are aligned in parallel
with the glass surface.LCDs are commonly used for portable electronic
games, as viewfinders for digital cameras and camcorders, in video
projection systems, for electronic billboards, as monitors for
computers, and in flat-panel televisions. They work by using liquid
crystals to produce an image. The liquid crystals are embedded into
the display screen, and there's some form of backlight used to
illuminate them. When the backlight is activated, it produces light that
is somewhat obstructed by the liquid crystals.
Power Supply

We use 12v power supply in our project. It is mainly used to provide DC

voltage to the components on board. 5V is required for relay applied from
power supply.
