INTRODUCTION

The pandemic introduced the field of fluid mechanics. The rise of the infected

individuals of Covid-19 virus made people realize how fast things to evolve, from a

droplets to a growing virus. Certain cases of the virus involve theories, laws and

principles of fluid mechanics. These are important in understanding its essence in the

prevention of the spread of virus. Various explanations have been proposed by

scientists and experts to understand how this virus works from person to person. This

aims to increase awareness of the virus and the misconceptions present in people’s

thoughts nowadays.

There is a section in this paper that discussed different concepts that is

usefulness and effectiveness in the prevention of the virus. Fluid Mechanics is the

study on how fluids move. Its relationship to the covid-19 explains which concepts are

applicable to people as well as to their environments. Years passed by but the

pandemic is still inevitable. People were already used of wearing masks and face

shields because of the possible presence of the virus in different locations. Yet many

organizations work on this concern and bring the concepts of Science in Fluid

Mechanics.

Understanding the high potential theories, laws and principles of fluid

mechanics is important as linked to the prevention of the spread of covid-19 virus.

This paper explains the essence of Fluid Mechanics at this time of crisis and how it

contributes to the society.

DISCUSSION

This part of the term paper will discuss the theories, laws, and principles in

Fluid Mechanics that are currently adapted, including those with high potential of it's

usefulness and effectiveness in the prevention from being infected by the Covid-19

virus. It explains how these concepts can help in mitigating the transmission of the

virus from person to person.

The flow of the virus

Fluid Physics plays an important role in the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of these

is the generation of virus-lader respiratory droplets from a host, it's airborne transition

and in surfaces. Fluid Dynamics is way to steps in the prevention of the virus such as

the use of face masks, hand washing, ventilation of indoor environments and even

social distancing (Mittal, E., Ni, R., & Seo, J.,2020)

According to Woodford, Chris (2012/2020), Aeorodynamics as a part of Fluid

Dynamics pertains to examining moving liquids and gases. Despite the involvement of

math, principles are not difficult to understand; from the flow of fluids, cause of drag

and the process on how fluids sustain their volume and energy upon flowing one

significant corruoy is the static movements of fluid similar to science in which fluid

moves but objects remains.

Droplets are formulated within the respiratory tract the mechanism that moves

outwards by the respiratory airflow and those droplets that are not observed by the

fluid lining are expelled within a two-phase bouyant jet from the mouth and /or nose.
Breathing and Talking creates jet velocities that seldom above 5 m s ^-1 ( Tang et al.

2013 )

Higher Temperatures and lower relative humidities can cause an evaporation

rates to increase the critical droplet size. ( Well 1934, Xie et al. 2007). As the

temperature increases, the rate of evaporation also increases. It is due to the kinetic

energy of the surface molecules which leads them to be free and become vapour.

However, this doesn't implies that the transmission of the virus only happen in either

high or low temperature areas. Regardless of the temperature, there are still measures

to be considered.

The Prevention of the virus

Fogging Machines gives a useful means of disinfecting large places such as in

hospitals, nursing homes, grocery stores and airplanes. These machines lies and it

performance was approved by the healthcare sector and the food industry ( Oh et al.

2005). However, In continuity, the volume of a flowing fluid in a certain place has

similar volume of of flowing fluid in the other place. Once a fluid flows in a smaller

place, it increases it's speed and for wider place, it decreases. This only means that

fogging machines must be placed in every corner of the place so that the disinfecting

process or the flow of the fluid increases it's speed. In addition, or this range of

droplet sizes, It is likely that that the enertial effects are too little and the collision that

happen between the disinfectant aerosol droplets and virus bearing droplets might be

dominated by diffusion.
According Chen, Z and Przekwas (2020), The Predominant route of the

transmission of the virus is through droplets exhaled by individual or environment.

Keeping in touch by affected surfaces followed by hand to facial transfer has been

proven to have a potential route of infection. Humans touched their faces more than 20

times per hour and a hand washing with soap and water is suggested to avoid virus

transmission. In oder to prevent the spread of the virus, every individual must educate

themselves to do handwashing from time to time. Contact from hands to face must be

avoided. Moreover, As stated by Pascal's law the pressure is distributed equally in

different areas and the sudden change of the pressure disperses equally within the

fluids. It goes beyond the walls of the container. Furthermore, Handwashing works by

emulsifying the lipid content of the material adhering to the hand into bulk fluid and

convecting it away.

In Mucus property modification, the physical properties of the mucus has an

important role in the formation of droplets within the respiratory route. Transient

modification of the physical properties of the mucus lining via material delivery to

enhance mucus stability therefore provides a means for reducing infection rates. These

methods uses complex multiphysics flow phenomena ( Mittal, E., Ni, R., & Seo, J.,

2020).

According to Pringle, J. (2020), The principles of fluid Mechanics are applied

in ventilation designs and occupational health; it is not impossible that the new

concepts about fluid mechanics and epidemiology could be helpful in improving

building ventilation systems.

A published study in physics of fluids examines the physics of face masks to

understand more on how we can effectively fight the Covid-19 virus goes around

worldwide. In their analysis, it was found out thaf face masks created from hybrid

polymer materials are most effective in filtering particles efficiently and remains a

comfortable temperature fo face as the user. Moreover, there is a relationship of

breathing resistance and flow resistance of the face mask. (Sulivan, K., 2020). Air

resistance or known as drag is the force that in motion objects feels when their is a

presence of air it begin to become turbulent. Also, Face masks provide inward

protection by filtering virus-laden aerosolized particles that was inhaled by an infected

person. Aside from this, face masks provide outward protection in which the increased

pressure in the region between mask and face pushes the face mask outwards.
SUMMARY

Fluid Mechanics has an important role in today's pandemic. Its theories, laws

and principles became useful in the prevention of the spread of the virus. The concept

of using facemasks, hand washing, disinfecting and many more as stated Mittal, E.,

Ni, R., & Seo, J.(2020 ) makes the Covid-19 possible to be prevented. However,

having that doesn't already mean we get to end this pandemic. At some instances, this

will only help in preventing the spread of the virus.

Moreover, Aerodynamics as part in the fluid mechanics is about the study of

moving liquids and gases. There are some stated theories, laws and principles of fluid

mechanics that help in the prevention of the spread of Covid-19 virus. First is the use

Fogging Machines that is according to Oh et al. (2005), these are useful means of

disinfecting large places. Because it releases a fluid that disinfects the space given.

Next , According Chen, Z and Przekwas (2020), The Predominant route of the

transmission of the virus is through droplets exhaled by individuals or environments .

Keeping in touch by affected surfaces followed by hand to facial transfer has been

proven to have a potential route of infection. Also, there is this Mucus property

modification that helps in modifying the physical properties of the mucus lining. In

addition, The principles of fluid Mechanics are applied in ventilation designs and

occupational health and that is according to Pringle, J. (2020). Lastly, in the study of

Sulivan, K. (2020), It was found out thaf face masks created from hybrid polymer

materials are most effective in filtering particles efficiently and remains a comfortable

temperature fo face as the user.

There are so many concepts about the prevention of the spread of the virus. In

times pandemic, fluid mechanics take part on the creation of theories, laws and

principles. Perhaps the ending of the pandemic is still unknown, the concepts of fluid

mechanics are still helpful in understanding the flow of the fluids involved in the

spread of the virus as well as its prevention.
