RDSO SPECIFICATION FOR R/M PAINT, RED-OXIDE(ISC:446) , BRUSHING,

FINISHING,GLOSSY FOR GENERAL PURPOSES
NO. M&C/PCN/122- 06

1.FOREWORD

0.1 BIS has withdrawn 14 oil based paints including R/M Red oxide finishing
paint to IS:123, on the ground that oil based paints are no longer in vogue
due to advent of newer technology and issued a common specification
IS:13607, based on synthetic medium covering various colours. A durability
test has been specified in IS:13607,which requires outdoor exposure of
painted panels for 30 days followed by salt spray test for 04 days.Procure-
ment of material gets delayed due to long testing duration of durability test. In
addition to that ,some tests like humidity test, dry film thickness, spreading
capacity etc.are also not stipulated in IS:13607, therefore there was a need
to have a RDSO specification ,to facilitate procurement of R/M Red Oxide
finishing paint of better quality with a minimum testing period and which
requires a less amount of Petroleum product in order to reduce
environmental pollution

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods of test for the
material commercially known as ready mixed paint, red-oxide brushing,
finishing, glossy for general purposes, and is based on synthetic resin . The
material is used for the protection and decoration of wagons, bridges and
steel structures and is normally applied as a painting system over a suitable
priming paint.

2.TERMINOLOGY

2.1 For the purpose of this standard, the definitions given in IS : 1303-1963
Glossary of Terms Relating to Paints (Revised) and IS : 101, Methods of Test
for Ready Mixed Paints and Enamels shall apply.

3.SAMPLING

3.1 The supplier shall submit a tender sample packed in three different
containers, each containing not less than 0.5 litre of the material.

3.2 Representative samples of the material shall be drawn as prescribed in Cl. 3

of IS : 101, Pt 1/Sec 1-86 Methods of Test for Ready Mixed Paints and
Enamels.
