 CHAPTER 1

THE TITLE AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter will introduce the study about HARMFUL EFFECTS OF

BALAYAN DISTILLERY INC. TO THE PHYSICAL HEALTH AS

PERCEIVED BY THE RESIDENTS NEAR AT BRGY. TALISAY

CALACA, BATANGAS A.Y. 2019-2020 that contains general objective,

introduction, statement of the problem, scope and limitation of the study and

significance of the study.

General Objectives

The researchers’ objective is to know what are the harmful effects of

Balayan Distillery Inc. to the physical health as perceived by the residents near

at Brgy. Talisay Calaca, Batangas. This study aims to advise the residents on

the possible disease that they might get causes by that factory. The main

purpose of this study is to make a change to our target place which is the Brgy.

Talisay Calaca, Batangas by means of giving knowledge to the residents

especially the barangay officials with the authority to make actions to prevent

diseases.
Introduction

Distillery is an installation of a piece of equipment used for distillation

of gases and other chemical products. And, according from Wikipedia, in the

chemical industry, distillation is a large amount of crude liquid products of

chemical synthesis are distilled to separate them, either from other products,

from impurities, or from unreacted starting materials.

Balayan Distillery Inc. is a chemical plant located at the National

Highway Road Brgy. Talisay Calaca, Batangas. The factory was built last 1999

it manufactures and produces alcohols and bio-ethanol, and importing it in

Petron and Shell station. Also, they produce anhydrous ammonia which is

prepared commercially from natural gas, air and steam. To produce those kinds

of chemicals, it will undergo to a lot of process. The ethanol that they produce

is the liquid that use to mixed with gasoline that uses for motorcycles and other

engines.

As the factory is in process of manufacturing of alcohol and ethanol, the

residents can be affected by the gas releasing by the factory. Although the

residents in Brgy. Talisay is not the nearest residents to be affected by the gas

releasing by the factory compare to the residents at Brgy Puting Bato Calaca,

Batangas.
Statement of the Problem

This study is all about the Harmful Effects of Balayan Distillery Inc. to

the Physical Health as Perceived by the Residents Near at Brgy. Talisay

Calaca, Batangas.

Specifically, this research study will answer the following question:

1. What is the profile variable of the respondent in terms of:

1.1. Gender, and

1.2. Age?

2. What are the effects of Balayan Distillery Inc. to the physical health of the

residents?

3. Is there any significant relationship between the profile variable and the

effects of Balayan Distillery Inc.?

4. Is there any significant relationship between the profile variable and the

perception of the residents?

5. What plan of action and recommendation to be proposed?

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study focuses on the harmful effects of Balayan Distillery Inc. to

the physical health of one’s person. The data collection will be conducted to the

30 selected residents including the ages of 15-60 that are near the Brgy. Talisay

Calaca, Batangas. This study would be done through conducting of

questionnaires to the residents as a survey and reference. By their strategy, the

researchers will be able to know the effects of that factory to the physical

health of the residents.

Significance of the Study

This study is undertaken to find out the Harmful Effects of Balayan

Distillery Inc. to the Physical Health as Perceived by the Residents Near at

Brgy. Talisay Calaca, Batangas.

To the Residents

This study will benefit a lot to the residents because the results will be

the basis for them to become aware on what will be the harmful effects of the

factory which is the Balayan Distillery Inc. to the physical health of the

residents.

To the Future Researcher

The study will serve as a reference and basis for the further study that is

relevant with this topic.

To the Students

The result will provide the students the knowledge, realization and to

make them aware about the harmful effects of the factory and the possible

diseases that they might get from its chemical gas.

To the Barangay Officials

The study will serve as the basis on what action will do to prevent

diseases causes by the factory

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDY

This chapter composes of conceptual literature, Research Literature,

Synthesis, Conceptual Framework, Hypothesis and Definition of Terms. The

researches have gone through intensive readings of materials, both printed and

downloaded through internet which has a great significance to problem during

the course of thesis writing.

Conceptual Literature

Distillery in the chemical industry, large amounts of crude liquid

products of chemical synthesis are distilled to separate them, either from other

products, from impurities, or from unreacted starting materials. (Wikipedia,

2019)

Based on Wikipedia, distillery in terms of chemical industry, the

executions of physical separation process of several products, such as things

that are filth and useless, and the unfinished products will be vaporize and

refine to make them separated. Through with it, it may result in essentially

complete separation of pure components.

Bioethanol is ethyl alcohol used as a fuel, particularly as an additive for

gasoline in motor fuel. (ScienceDirect, 2020)

According from Science Direct, bioethanol can use as a fuel because it is

a flammable colorless liquid, and this flammable liquid produced by microbial

fermentation including sugarcane, grains, forestry wastes, agricultural wastes,

etc. that is why most of factory of gas releasing an unpleasant odor. And

particularly, bioethanol used for the gas and fuel of engines.

Research Paradigm

The Paradigm of the Conceptual Framework includes the IPO or the Input,

Process, and the Output of the research study. Wherein the Input includes the

Profile of the respondents in terms of age and gender. These questions are also

the factors that the researcher needs to consider in conducting this research.

The Process of the research includes the construction of the research

title, data gathering, selecting respondents, construction of questionnaire,

distribution and administration of survey test, retrieval of the survey

questionnaire, validation of the respondents’ responses, statistical treatment and

data analysis, interpreting the data given by the chosen respondents, and lastly,

the construction of the findings, conclusion and respondents.

 The Output or the result of this study is the Harmful Effects of Balayan

Distillery Inc. to the Physical Health as Perceived by the Residents near at

Brgy. Talisay Calaca, Batangas A.Y. 2019-2020.

Hypotheses

There is no significant relationship between the profile variable and the

effects of Balayan Distillery Inc.

There is no significant relationship between the profile variable and the

perception of the residents.

 CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURE

This chapter presents the methods and procedure used by the researchers

in accomplishing the study. This covers the research design, description of

respondents, instruments to be used, data gathering procedures and statistical

treatment of data/analysis of data.

Research Design

To find out the, Harmful Effects of Balayan Distillery Inc. to the

Physical Health as Perceived by the Residents Near at Brgy. Talisay Calaca,

Batangas: Descriptive Method

This Descriptive method of research involves gathering data, analysis

and interpretation to come up with a valuable set of information as a tool for

the researcher for their study. The topic will be used references and broad

information in the internet to tackle things that will clarify the question that the

research paper needs to be answered. Data gathered must be accurate, questions

of the readers and researcher to provide the fulfillment of their current

knowledge about this study.

 Descriptive research does not fit neatly into the definition of either

quantitative or qualitative research methodologies, but instead it can utilize

elements of both, often within the same study. The term descriptive research

refers to the type of research question, design, and data analysis that will be

applied to a given topic. Descriptive statistics tell what is, while inferential

statistics try to determine cause and effect.

Subject of the Study

The study will use of 30 selected residents that is nearby the seashore of

Brgy. Talisay Calaca, Batangas. The respondents are those who are 15-60 years

old. Both male and female can be the respondents.

Data Gathering Instrument

This research will be able to gather data using some instruments. The

instruments used include the following:

Construction of the Questionnaire. It was obtained by passing the

questionnaire to the research teacher and to the researcher’s adviser for

consultation. The data will be collected from the questionnaire that will be used

for the survey.

Validation of the Questionnaire. It was obtained by checking the

validity of test questions based on the level of understanding of the

respondents.
 Distribution and Administration of the survey test. It was obtained

by distributing the test questions to the respondents.

Retrieval of the survey questionnaire. After the respondent answered

the questionnaire, researcher will collect all of it to be validated

Validation of the respondents’ responses. It will be obtained by

checking the validity of the test questionnaire with the consent of research that

is based on the understanding of th respondents.

Scoring. The researchers used the scale interval in this questionnaire

with the following conditions:

Data Gathering Procedures

Using systematic procedures, the validation of the questionnaire was

checked by the thesis adviser. After that, a letter of request is to be submitted to

the Administrator of Calaca Academy, Inc. in order that the validated

questionnaire can be distributed to the respondents with the permit tested by the

concern authorities.

The data was collected from the entire survey questionnaire that the

respondents answered. The survey helped to find out information by the means

of gathering data from respondents who answered the survey by strongly agree,

agree, moderately agree, disagree, or strongly disagree.

Statistical Treatment of Data

To analyze and interpret the data gathered from the respondents of the

study, the following statistical tools and procedures were used by the

researcher.

1. Weighted Mean - This method was used to interpret the data from the

respondents about the harmful effects of Balayan Distillery Inc. to the human

physical health

2. Scale Interval – In analyzing and interpreting the responses of the

respondents, the researcher will use the scale interval on harmful effects of
Balayan Distillery Inc. to the human physical health. The questionnaire items

given in this study with the following condition.

3. Frequency Distribution - This statistical tool was used to be able to

present the data clearly and accurately in tabulated form with corresponding

rows and columns for each specified category.

4. Likert Scale - In order to interpret the harmful effects of Balayan

Distillery Inc. to the human health.

5. F –test - This method is used to compute if there is a significant

difference between the answer of the respondents according to their gender

and age.
6. T-test – Is the analysis of two population means through the use of

statistical examination.
