The Vice Presidenti M Venkaiah Naidu has called for critical reassessment of our
lifestyle and thinking in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic to establish peace and
harmony in the world. Inaugurating the 6th Dharma Dhamma International
Conference at Nat Nalanda, Naidu said we have to think of ways to reduce tension
and make people’s lives comfortable and happy in today’s world. The Vice
President said Nalanda University must once again serve as a bridge and
foundation in linking India with the outside world through the power of
knowledge. He said this great cradle of learning must provide a transformational
academic experience for every student in a spirit of creative collaboration. The
Vice President also cautioned about the dangerous consequences of climate
change and emphasized the need to adopt a lifestyle that is sustainable and in
sync with our natural environment. In this regard, he appealed to the people to
learn from our traditional, nature-friendly practices emphasizing that we must go
back to our roots. Naidu also lauded Nalanda University for seeking to build the
world’s largest self-sustaining Net-Zero campus.

Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR said that the eight Northeastern states
have been experiencing a higher burden of cancers in both men and women. On
the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day yesterday, ICMR said that a total
of 13.9 lakh cases was estimated to be the cases in the northeast in 2020 which is
expected to rise to 15.6 Lakh in 2025. The report said that cancers of the head and
neck region accounted for nearly one third of cases among males. Most of the
cancer cases in the region were reported from the age group 45 to 64 years. The
report further states that 52.4 per cent of the cases were reported in males. The
ICMR said that tobacco use-related cancers constituted 27 per cent of all
cancers.

Country’s active Covid-19 case load has come down to 0.42 per cent which is
lowest since March 2020. 12 thousand 432 recoveries in the last 24 hours
increased the Total Recovery to Three Crore 37 Lakh 49 Thousand 900. India's
Active caseload stands at One Lakh 44 Thousand 845 which is lowest in 260
days. Daily positivity rate has been less than two per cent for the last 34 days and
is now at 1.18 per cent. Weekly Positivity Rate stands at 1.28 per cent. So far, a
total of 61 Crore 48 Lakh sample tests have been conducted.

Power Minister R K Singh has said that National Thermal Power Corporation,
NTPC is a special company and it is the largest provider of energy to the country,
the most important input for growth. Addressing the 47th Raising Day of NTPC in
New Delhi yesterday, Singh outlined the Company’s achievements, expertise,
future goals and also discussed NTPC’s role in leading India’s energy transition.
He appreciated NTPC for passing on approximately 4500 crore rupees to states in
the last financial year by optimizing energy charges. The Minister stressed that
NTPC needs to keep growing and add capacity as the country needs to keep pace
with the ever-growing demand for energy. Singh also underlined NTPC’s
impressive record of producing almost a billion units every day. On the occasion,
the Minister presented the Swarn Shakti Awards to NTPC plants.
