Example
 fo = 100 MHz
Switch
 L = 1.5 m
 Vc = 3×108 m/s
L 1.5 Vin LED
= =
Vc 3  10 8
L
 = 5  10 −9 Sec
Vin (t) = Vo cos(2  108 t)
Vout (t) = Vo cos(2  108 (t − 5  10 −9 ))
Vout (t) = Vo cos(2  10 t − ) 8

Vout (t) = − Vo cos(2  108 t) = − Vin (t) 6

What is a Microwave?
 A wave having wavelength in μm range?
It is not !!!
 Microwaves are signals having frequency range 300 MHz
to 300 GHz (λ = 1 m to 1 mm)
 Micro is used for “small”
 Energy carried by the waves is on the order of μeV
E = hf/e = 6.6261×10-34 × f (GHz) × 109 / (1.602×10-19)
E = 4.1361×10-6×f (GHz) eV
