Kerr family
says thanks
THE family of murdered
police officer Ronan Kerr has
issued a formal thank you
for the support they have
received in the wake of his
death.
Pc Kerr died after a booby-
trap car bomb exploded
outside his home in Omagh
earlier this month.
In an acknowledgement
published in today’s News
Letter, Pc Kerr’s mother
Nuala and the rest of his
family say they want to
“express our heartfelt thanks
and appreciation to everyone
who sympathised with us
in recent weeks following
Ronan’s tragic death”.

Hope fading
for unionist
HOPE was fading fast last
night for the first unionist to
contest a seat in the southern
parliament in 40 years.
Jeffrey Dudgeon is running
for one of Trinity College
Dublin’s three seats in the
Irish Senate.
He got 205 votes on the
first count. Some 16,000 votes
were cast.
At time of going to press,
Irish presidential hopeful
David Norris was in the lead
with over 5,000 votes.
Body found
in house
A 37-year-old man’s body
was found at a house in south
Belfast yesterday.
It was discovered at around
1.30pm at Burmah Street, off
the Ormeau Road.
The scene was forensically
searched and a post-mortem
examination was carried out.
Police are investigating the
circumstances surrounding
the death.
