Ielts Speaking Part 2 - 02
Ielts Speaking Part 2 - 02
Deep down I'm a type of guy who is a real sucker for festive atmosphere. Come to think of
a memorable dinner I wouldn't hesitate to give you an account of a special meal that my
friends and I had together in my house. It was a graduation party that we decided to chip in
At first, we assigned the tasks equally. Some went to the market nearby to purchase some
ingredients like vegetables and fruits while others were responsible for buying already-
cooked food that we were incapable of making on our own. It got a bit messy at first ‘cause
no one in my group knew how to cook a decent dinner, but then two girls in my group
And there we go, the meal was finally being brought out, really really delicious-looking, until
we ate, it totally sucked, some were over-cooked and the steak was chewy, not to mention
all of these were under-seasoned. But, that’s important, at least for us, by making this whole
meal an unforgettable experience and also, marking a milestone for us officially bidding
farewell to the scholarly environment, embarking on a way tougher path of building up our
career. So, all the food was consumed, I ate to my heart’s content since I weirdly love
The dinner reminded us of the time we had at university, how we got through exams and
presentations, all kinds of ups and downs. We also shared our upcoming goals and obstacles
WHAT IS IT?
WHAT POEM IS IT FROM?
HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT IT?
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?
Well, I don’t know if you’ve heard of that song, but it’s kinda popular - that song is let her go
- performed by a group called passenger - if my memory serves.
And my favourite lines go like - only know I’ve been high when you’re feeling low, only hate
the road when you’re missing home - only know you love her when you let her go.
I honestly couldn’t recall the first time that I listened to it as it’s very popular and always
sounds familiar to me. But, a few weeks ago, when I turned on an automatically-created
list of songs on youtube, I noticed that song was in heavy rotation and really catchy, too.
So, I turned on Shazam to identify the song, added it to my favourite playlist, played it over
and over. And those lines, honestly, are some of the most persistent earworms. The next
day, I caught myself humming its tune. Once it has buried itself in your brain, it’s probably
going to take some kind of surgery to get it removed once and for all.
Well, talking a bit about the meaning.
It’s kinda easy to see what the meanings of those lines are, and it’s the thing, which is a
universal truth. Every single time that I listen to this masterpiece, I always tell myself how
precisely the song explains what happens in our lives. We, humans, always take things for
granted. When we have them, we have a tendency not to value them the way we should;
and when they’re all gone, we sit in despair, realizing how much they meant to us. The only
thing left is the feeling of regret, the worst feeling one could possibly have.. - “only know
you’ve been high when you’re feeling low” - you have to feel low, down and depressed to
realize you’ve been high.
And those probably are all I want to tell you about today.
SPEAKING PART 2 – DINNER - A SONG – CHANGE OPINION
Well, believe it or not, I used to be an opponent of regular medical checkups, always rolling
my eyes at those who said they monthly had regular health screenings. I adhered to the
belief that it was a waste of time and money, going around, telling my friends that they should
stop acting like those old people, and always think they’re sick.
But several days ago, I dropped my opposition after learning that one of my friend’s
relatives was diagnosed with terminal cancer, as this person only went to the hospital when
he got specific symptoms of the diseases, which, I just learned and for your information as
well, take place at the late stages of the disease when treatment options are limited and
I went online, read a lot of articles about similar stories and even stories about early detection
It doesn’t take a lot of time to go to the hospital to get blood tests done and know how well
some organs like kidneys, liver and heart are working. With the increasing affordability of
some high-tech medical devices, it no longer costs a fortune to have an ultrasound scan of
my liver or other organs to keep track of my health and prevent lots of health problems; and
it’s common knowledge now that many deadly diseases lack symptoms until advanced.
