Frank Palumbo
Superintendent of Human Resources
Algoma District School Board
644 Albert St. East
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, P6A 2K7

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Nicole, and I am writing in response to your job posting for the position of a Full Time Elementary School
Teacher within your school district. I believe that children are our future and that every child should be entitled to
equitable education that is provided in a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment. I believe that trust and
connections need to be established between the student, the family, and the community, in order to build healthy
relationships.

Throughout the last couple of years, I have been able to work with a variety of age groups, cultures, and vulnerable
populations. Throughout these experiences, I have been able to apply Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple
Intelligence, in that every individual learns differently. As an educator, my goal will be to include different strategies
to address different learning styles. I have learned about the impact that social determinants of health and inequities
can have on individuals and their families. Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs are important in the classroom,
ensuring that student’s basic needs are met, including students feeling safe, happy, and welcomed into my class. By
meeting Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, students are at their full potential for learning. My most recent nursing job has
allowed me take on a leadership role to support fellow team members and workplaces as we combat Covid together.
Leadership in the classroom is providing direction, guidance, and motivation as well as being a positive role model for
my students. Working as a nurse and following guidelines that are constantly changing has reinforced the need to be
able to adapt to change, which I feel is essential in a classroom setting.

My favorite part of working in healthcare has been working with children. I’ve seen kids be warriors and have been
blessed to advocate, support and reassure them along the way. I’ve been able to see the value of building relationships
with children and earning their trust. Knowing how to communicate with children is essential to being able to
empower them to perform to the best of their abilities. In addition, having a child of my own has allowed me to be
familiar with the stages of growth, development, and milestones of early childhood, which I believe is essential
knowledge in order to properly assess and adapt instruction to children of various ages.

As a Medaille College graduate, I have learned about the importance of implementing best practices into the
classroom based on current research to maximize student learning. I have constructed lesson plans with clear
objectives and learning goals. I have learned that student experiences can be enhanced by differentiating instruction
for learning styles, IEPs, gifted/talented abilities, and cultural and socio-economic needs. As a teacher, I will integrate
technology into lessons to engage learners, and use a variety of assessments to confirm successful learning throughout
the year. I will consistently evaluate my own instruction and ensure that the curriculum and best practices are being
followed. In addition, I have participated in some professional development training courses: “Action Research for the
Classroom”, “Developing and Maintaining Positive Learning Environments in the Classroom”, and “Differentiation in
the Classroom”. These courses have further strengthened the knowledge that I have acquired. I have enrolled in the
workshop this summer “Creating Mental Health-Positive Environments” which I feel is essential following learning at
home throughout the pandemic.

I am eager to grow in my profession and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my background would
contribute to the needs of your educational program. Thank you for considering my application and I look forward to
hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Nicole Silver
