This quiet village has seen its story change in the morning
of June, 6th 1944 when 82nd Airborne paratroopers liberated the
village.
The dummy paratrooper hanging on the steeple of the church,
representing John Steele, the Borne 0 of the Way of Liberty, Airborne
Museum, two modern stained-glass windows in Holly Mother of
Peace-church or Paratrooper’s Memorial at la Fière are tributes to
this event.
In 1962, movie “The longest Day“ released in theaters enhanced
Sainte-Mère-Église fame.

B-26 bomber plane, unique in Europe. The movie “Victory in the
sand“ is about American soldiers’ experience on Utah Beach. Moving
