LESSON 8 LESSON FROM THE BATTLE OF UHUD

Q1. What was the composition of the army of the Quraish that marched to
Madina to attack the Muslims?
Ans. The army of the Qureish that marched to Madina composed of 3000
persons ,who were fully equipped with war weapons led by Abu Sufyan and
accompanied with some women whose duty is to entertaining and inspire them by
singing songs.

Q2. Why did the Holy Prophet (SAW) suggest the defensive strategy in the
battle of Uhud?
Ans. The Holy Prophet (SAW) knew that the number of Muslim fighters was quite
less than the enemy therefore, the best course of action with regard to the strength
of the enemy was to remain in Madina let the enemy besiege the city. In this way
its force would be dispersed in a number of sectors. The muslims could easily
strike a blow at their weaker area.

Q3. What was the opinion of youth with respect to facing the army of the
Quraish?
Ans. The Youth were in the opinion that the army of the Qureish should not be
allowed to approach Madina at any cost. They insisted on battle in the open field
away from Madina. They had intense desire to kill the aggressive enemy.

Q4. Why did the Holy Rasool (SAW) prefer the opinion of youths regarding
facing the enemy in the battle of Uhud?
Ans. The Holy Rasool (SAW) loved and honored youth. He respected and honored
their enthusiasm. The Youth were in the opinion that the army of the Qureish
should not be allowed to approach Madina at any cost. Therefore, the Rasool
decided to face the enemy in the open field outside Madina.

Q5. How did the course of the battle of Uhud change for a time in favour of
the Quraish of Mecca?
Ans. The Holy Prophet (SAW) deployed the band of fifty archers who to take up
position on a mound and gave them instructions that they should not leave the pass
at any circumstances. When the archers saw the enemy retreating in defeat, they
come down from the pass and started to collect the mal e ghanimat of retreating
force of Qureish. Khalid Bin Waleed who had not been converted to islam yet,
attacked from that vacant position, which changed the course of the battle of Uhud.
Q6. What happened after the false rumors about the martyrdom of the Holy
Rasool (SAW) was spread by the infidels?
Ans. The rumor about the martyrdom of the holy Rasool (SAW) fell like thunder
on the morale of Muslim warriors. They were highly confused. They left fighting
and started leaving the battle field. The rumor was spread by the Qureish after the
martyrdom of Hazrat Mas'ab bin Omair (RA) who resembled the Holy Prophet
(SAW).

Q7. What lesson does lie in the battle of Uhud for the Muslims in general?
Ans. The great loss of life in the battle of Uhud taught Muslims a great lesson,
They learnt that the slightest opposition to the commands of Allah and His
Messenger could inflict great troubles on them. They realized that the bright
victory they had almost got turned into a defeat due to their violation of the
instructions of the Prophet (SAW)

Q8. What would have been the result of the battle had the archers not left
their high post?
Ans. The result of battle would have been fully in the favor of Muslims. They had
expected victory and had got it. They even collect war booty and started
plundering the enemy camp to collect Mal e Ghanimat. However, the mistake of
the archers provided Khalid Bin Waleed a chance to take the advantage and thus
the course of battle changed.

Q7. How would you relate the battle of Uhud to the battle of Badar?
Ans. Battle of Uhud was an extension of the Battle of Badr because it was fought
by the Qureish to take revenge of their earlier defeat at Badr. in order to take
revenge, the Qureish assembled a large army of 3000 men marched to Madina.
They were very confident to teach Muslims a lesson. Abu Sufyan announced at the
end of the war that it was the reply of Badar.
