Directions: Cite at least two aspects in technology applications in teaching and learning
that should be evaluated. Cite at least two reasons why you have chosen these specific
areas for evaluation.
1. Student Retention
Many of the factors associated with student withdrawal are not solely attributable
to the student. Students sometimes fail academically, not so much because they
lack application but because they have misunderstood institutional expectations.
Further, a student’s failure to integrate into an institution might be as much about
that institution’s failure to provide adequate facilities as it is about the failure of
individual students to cope with change. Students, therefore, are not necessarily
totally to blame when they do not complete their program. Indeed, there has
been a major change in institutional philosophy over the last decade, which has
seen institutions respond to student withdrawal by setting up proactive student
retention programs designed to support students through those circumstances
during which they might have formerly withdrawn.
