Environmental Awareness Narrative Report

Maurice Georgette Fua

BSED ENG 1B / GEC 1 – H

On the 6th of November 2021, The National Service Training Program of Bataan Peninsula State
University has conducted their webinar regarding environmental awareness such as; climate change,
overpopulation, pollutions, gases and other natural resources depletion.

The program has started with questions concerning the topic hosted by Mr. Larry Jr. Nonan and is
followed up by a lecture by one of the guest speakers, Mr. Romelo Cuaresma about environmental
management and protection. This lecture covered several topics and terminologies that NSTP students
should be aware about in order to aid the cause of protecting the environment, this presentation
contains: the definition of environment, what natural resources are and what legal authority means.
There are also forest products (Sec. 3. PD 705) such as timber, firewood, bark, treetop, resins, and other
biomass (Sec. 17. DAO 94-07) as well as what they are associated with and what they are used for. There
was also a discussion about wildlife, watersheds, the ecosystem and difference between protected areas
and timberlands then biodiversity, caves, natural parks and mangroves. The program then continued with
environmental principles, sustainable development, and natural resource management approach before
proceeding to Environmental Management, planning and major environmental laws.

The Philippines is a country prone to natural disasters, particularly floods, landslides, volcano eruptions,
earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons. Its environment suffers from various human-caused issues such as
deforestation, air and water pollution, improper waste disposal, toxic wastes, loss of coral reefs, soil
erosion, mismanagement of resource use, overfishing, poaching, and many more. As stated during the
program, everyone should practice taking an active role in protecting the environment – changing
lifestyles to encourage a healthier environment in activities such as participating in tree planting
programs or by simple daily activities such as cleaning, practicing proper segregation and waste disposal,
taking care of trees, saving energy and water and many more.

Most of us do not realize how little things are also so much more than what it seems. Something simple
such as putting wastes in proper trash bins, encouraging others to be involved, cleaning, planting trees,
following the republic acts and presidential decrees that were implemented to lessen the problems in our
environment are all factors that can help making the environment healthier. A healthier mother nature
promotes a healthier community – helping the environment also helps ourselves. This program
encourages education on the environment and how to become the youth of today that may aid in the
cause of protecting it.
