The Snail

We all know that the snail carries its house on its back. The house grows
as the snail grows. Snail houses are of different shapes, although circular shells and
cone-shaped shells are the most common. The shell protects the snail against most
enemies.
Snails live on plants. They are found in the garden and in damp places
where there are well-watered places. They usually are seen at night but often come
out after the rain. They love to play in the rain. The snail has only one foot, but this is
almost as broad as its shell and with it the snail can travel very securely. To make
foot cling to the thing on which the snail is moving, a sticky liquid is dropped from an
opening just at the back of the head.

In cold weather, the snail goes in its shell, seals it up, and stay inside without food
until it is ready to come out again.
