Agriculture and processed food production export


Development Authority is an apex body that promotes
export trade of agricultural products in India. Set-up by the
ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India,
APEDA was formed under the act passed by parliament in
December 1985.
Functions
APEDA is mandated with the responsibility of export promotion and development of the
scheduled products viz. fruits, vegetables and their products; meat and meat products;
poultry and poultry products; dairy products; confectionery, biscuits and bakery products;
honey, jaggery and sugar products; cocoa and its products, chocolates of all kinds; alcoholic
and non-alcoholic beverages; cereal and cereal products; groundnuts, peanuts and walnuts,
pickles, papads and chutneys; guar gum; floriculture and floriculture products; herbal and
medicinal plants.
APEDA has been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor import of sugar.
It looks after the development of industries relating to the scheduled products for export by
way of providing financial assistance or otherwise for undertaking surveys and feasibility
studies, participating through subsidy schemes.
Registration of persons as exporters of the scheduled products and fixing of standards and
specifications for the scheduled products for the purpose of exports.
Carrying out inspection of meat and meat products in slaughterhouses, processing plants,
storage premises and improving packaging of the scheduled products.
Composition of APEDA Authority
•The APEDA Authority consists of the following members namely:
Chairman – Appointed by the Central Government.
Director – Appointed by APEDA.
Secretary – Appointed by the Central Government.
Other Officers and Staff – Appointed by the Authority.
Eight members appointed by the Central Government representing
respectively; the Ministries of the Central Govt.

Two members appointed by the Central Government from amongst specialists and
scientists in the fields of agriculture, economics and marketing of the scheduled
products.
Introduction
The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) came
into existence in 1987. It is a national-level apex organization functioning under
the administrative control of Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
TRIFED has its Head Office located in New Delhi and has a network of 13 Regional
Offices located at various places in the country.
Objectives
•The ultimate objective of TRIFED is socio-economic development of tribal people
in the country by way of marketing development of the tribal products such as
metal craft, tribal textiles, pottery, tribal paintings and pottery on which the tribals
depends heavily for major portion of their income.
•TRIFED acts as a facilitator and service provider for tribes to sell their product.
•The approach by TRIFED aims to empower tribal people with knowledge, tools and
pool of information so that they can undertake their operations in a more
systematic and scientific manner.
•It also involves capacity building of the tribal people through sensitization,
formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and imparting training to them for
undertaking a particular activity.
Functions
It mainly undertakes two functions viz. Minor Forest Produce (MFP) development
and Retail Marketing and Development.

Bureau of Indian Standards
•BIS is the National Standard Body of India for the harmonious development of the
activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods.
•BIS has been providing traceability and tangibility benefits to the national economy in a
number of ways by:
•Providing safe reliable quality goods.
•Minimizing health hazards to consumers.
•Promoting exports and imports substitute.
•Control over proliferation of varieties etc through standardization, certification and
testing.

•It was established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,


1986 which came into effect in December 1986. It works under the
aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public
Distribution.
•A new Bureau of Indian standard (BIS) Act 2016 has been brought
into force with effect from October 2017.
The Research Design & Standards Organization (RDSO) of Indian Railways has become the first
Institution to be declared a Standard Developing Organization (SDO) under One Nation One
Standard mission of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

RDSO took the initiative to seek recognition as a Standard Developing Organization (SDO) under
the BIS SDO Recognition Scheme.

About:

The idea of One Nation One Standard Mission was first conceived in 2019, it was
envisioned on the line of one nation, one ration card scheme in order to ensure quality
products in the country.
To attain the One Nation One Standard vision of the Government of India, BIS launched a
scheme which provides for Recognition of SDO.

The recognition is valid for 3 years and will require renewal after completion of the
validity period.
Research Designs & Standards Organization
It is the sole R&D Wing of the Ministry of Railways, is one of
India’s leading Standard formulating bodies undertaking
standardization work for the railway sector situated in Lucknow,
Uttar Pradesh.
The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public
Distribution has launched the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) Mobile
App ‘BIS-Care’ and three portals namely the Standardization,
Conformity Assessment and Training Portals of e-BIS for consumers.
Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan launched the Bureau
of Indian Standard’s Mobile App BIS-Care on 27 July,2020.
•BIS-Care App:

• The app can be operated on any Android phone and is operational in Hindi
and English language.
• Consumers can check the authenticity of the ISI-marked and hallmarked
products and lodge complaints using this app.
• It is important to ensure that consumers are aware of the standards and
quality products and help in eliminating the supply of sub-standard products.
•e-BIS:

• e-BIS is an integrated portal covering all functions of BIS, enlisting the


services of outside agencies for factory and market surveillance and
development of mobile app-based and Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled
surveillance methods.
• Certification and surveillance to enforce the implementation of standards is
an important aspect of BIS functioning which is also strengthening its
capacity of enforcement by the implementation of e-BIS.
The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) is a
Government of India company headquartered at Kochi. It was constituted on
24 August 1972, under the Marine Products Export Development Authority
Act 1972 (No.13 of 1972). The role envisaged for the MPEDA under the statute
is comprehensive - covering fisheries of all kinds, increasing exports,
specifying standards, processing, marketing, extension and training in
various aspects of the industry.

MPEDA functions under the Department of Commerce, Government of India


and acts as a coordinating agency with different Central and State
Government establishments engaged in fishery production and allied
activities.
The Spices Board is the Indian government regulatory and export promotion agency
for Indian spices headed by a Chairman, rank equivalent to Joint Secretary to
Government of India. The board is headquartered in Kochi. Spices Board was constituted
in 1987 under Spices Board Act 1986 with the responsibility of production/development of
cardamom and export promotion of 52 spices shown in the schedule of the Act.

The main functions of the Spices Board are the following: (i) Research,
Development and Regulation of domestic marketing of Small & Large
Cardamom; (ii) Post-harvest improvement of all spices; (iii) Export promotion
of all spices and assisting exporters in technology upgradation, quality
management, brand promotion, research & product development; (iv)
Development of spices in the North East; (v) Regulation of quality of spices for
exports through its quality evaluation services; etc.
