Game Analysis No. 1: Michael Jordan’s last game as a Chicago Bulls Player
(June 14, 1998). The Bulls won 87–86, winning their sixth NBA championship in
eight years. Game 6 was the final game with the Bulls for Michael Jordan vs the
Utah Jazz.
INTRODUCTION
Before I discuss the match, I would like to give some short introduction regarding the
two teams fighting for the championship. The Chicago Bulls are an American
professional basketball team based in Chicago. The Bulls compete in the National
Basketball Association as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Central
Division. The team was founded on January 16, 1966 and played its first game during
the 1966–67 NBA season. Meanwhile, The Utah Jazz are an American professional
basketball team based in Salt Lake City. The Jazz compete in the National Basketball
Association as a member of the league's Western Conference, Northwest Division.
Since 1991, the team has played its home games at Vivint Arena. This game is highly
contested since it defines if there would be a game 7 in the finals, but hence, Michael
Jordan saved this game with a surprise 2-pt. jump shot from 17 ft. that sealed their
place as the champion of the year 1998. Moreover, this game happened in Utah’s home
court, at the Delta Center, now known as Vivint Arena, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
SUMMARY OF THE GAME
Now let us discuss the summary of the game. In this part of the summary of the game I
will illustrate their respective scores per quarter.

At the start of the game, the jump ball was between K. Malone and L. Longley,
but R. Harper gained possession of the ball. At 11:44, just sixteen seconds on the clock,
S. Pippen makes a 2-pt. dunk that was assisted by R. Harper. That is just the beginning
of the first quarter, now let us focus on the highlight of the first quarter. One of the
highlights of the first quarter is when M. Jordan made a 3pt. jump shot from 25. ft that
was assisted by T. Kukoc. As it made the score 15-8, in favor of the Chicago Bulls.
Another highlight is when Jordan made another 2pt.jump shot from 19 ft. that tied the
score of 22-22. But still the Utah Jazz won by 3 points, 22-25, in favor of them, the last
shot of the quarter was done by Malone from a free throw shot. Here is a summary of
shots that was made by Chicago Bulls on the first quarter.

Now let us focus on the

second quarter. S. Anderson
makes 2-pt layup, right off
the bat, that makes the
score, 22-27, in favor of the
Utah Jazz, then moments
later, a personal foul was
committed by C. Morris,
consecutively by G. Foster.
Then after two moments of
turnover, both committed by
B. Wennington. He is
substituted by D. Rodman.
Fig. 1.2. Chicago Bull’s Shot After the substitution, T.
st
Chart of 1 Quarter Kukoc tried to do a 2pt. jump
shot from 20 ft. but missed it, still
he compensated for it by doing a
2pt. lay up later that was assisted by D. Rodman. For the Bulls to lead the
second quarter. J. Buechler made a 2pt. jump shot, from 21 ft. that was
assisted by Michael Jordan. But minutes later the Utah Jazz campaigned
so hard that the score reached 28-32, in favor of them, in courtesy of a
2pt. layup of K. Malone which was answered by M. Jordan by scoring a
3pt jump shot from 25 ft., assisted by T. Kukoc. Let us now fast forward on
the ending of the first half as B. Russel makes a 2pt. layup that was
assisted by Malone, to answer that M. Jordan attempted to do a 3pt. jump
shot from 37 ft., but it missed. The box score of the first half is 45-49, in
favor of the Utah Jazz.
The second half would be compressed to give way to the historic
shot that was done by M. Jordan that was ranked Jordan's last shot as a
Bulls player fourth among 50 best single-game performances in 2010. As
four minutes in the third quarter, M. Jordan makes 2-pt jump shot from 17
ft., they are trying to close the gap that M. Jordan, on the shot clock of
2:36 made a successful free throw 1 of 2 to tie the score of 60-60. Many
attempts were made by both teams to further their score, but Utah Jazz
closed the third quarter by the player, A. Keefe who made a 2pt. layup,
assisted by H. Eisley. That made the score 61-66 in favor of the Utah
Jazz. The game is reaching its finale and it is in a high stake since if the
Utah Jazz wins this game, it would mean that a Game 7 would happen
between them. Now let us now focus on the last quarter of the game. The
game was started by a shooting foul of H. Eisley, M. Jordan made 2
successful free throw that made the score 63-66, still in favor of the Utah
Jazz. Then moments later, M. Jordan makes 2-pt jump shot from 15 ft. but
another attempt of him to make a 2pt jump shot failed that was answered
by C. Morris who made a 2pt. layup, assisted by K. Malone that made the
score 67-70, in favor of the Utah Jazz, after that layup, the Chicago had a
full timeout. After a full timeout request. S. Pippen enters the game for M.
Jordan but after 2 minutes he reenters the court and replaces J. Buechler.
He made two successful free throws then makes a 2pt. jump shot later
from 18 ft. Fast forward. The score was 81-83 in favor of the Utah Jazz,
the Chicago bulls requested another full timeout. After that, M. Jordan
made another two successful free throws. But was answered by J.
Stockton by a 3pt. jump shot assisted by K. Malone, then the Chicago
bulls requested again for another full timeout. S. Kerr enters the game for
R. Harper. Michael Jordan makes a 2pt. layup after resume which made
the score 85-86, it is very nerve wracking just 5.2 seconds remaining
Michael Jordan made his 2-pt jump shot from 17 ft. that sealed the deal.
The score was 87-86 in favor of the Chicago Bulls, thus making them
champion of NBA 1998 season.

Since it was the last time for Michael Jordan to play
in Chicago Bulls, let us focus on him only. He

the highest percentage of making 3 points goes to
