Podcast Creation Brief

by
Yenziwe Nhlabatsi
Create 2 Episodes for an original podcast as well as social media content to advertise it. You
can choose any topic for your podcast, but it must have a comedic element written into it.

Part One: Planning

Name TOPIC and Briefly describe the angle you are going to take.
What is the key message that you want people to take away from your series.

The key message we this podcast wants listeners to take away from this series is that with so
much noise assaulting the senses and the mind, there is no crime in not being okay, to feel
overwhelmed, to not have everything figured out and to choose to focus on yourself and your
mental well-being. This podcast wants listeners to know that there are people out there that feel
a similar way and who want to share tips that may help you to protect your peace.

Describe your target persona. Include:

A photo and a name

much rather stay indoors in her own company or that of a select few.
At least 3 digital habits

Their wants and needs from the podcast/video - why would they listen to it/watch it.
What 2 social media platforms you intend to use to advertise your podcast series, and why
would they be relevant to this target persona?

The target listener for this podcast uses a variety of digital tools. However, they frequent Twitter
and Instagram because of the way in which the apps are able to provide summarised visual and
textual information updates with the option to explore whatever content catches their attention
further through links to news sites, websites, blogs, online stores, libraries, podcasts, streaming
services and other social platforms. The target listener would listen to this podcast because it
tackles and weighs in on current topics that have everybody talking in a fresh and light-hearted
manner. This podcast acknowledges how challenging life can be for the young South South
African, it tells her that she is not alone, she’s doing better than she thinks and that she needs to
be kinder to herself.

Part Two: Execution

Name and briefly describe each episode.

Episode 1: Keeps you regular.

Love to see it segment:

We’re recognising positive vibes with a special mention of someone’s special achievement or
something great that’s caught your attention which you would like to see more of or simply
share with everybody.

Leave it on read segment:

On the flip side of all things good, there's always some craziness out there that makes you
shake your head or sigh in disbelief. Tell us about it and why you're not letting take up room in
your head.

The flow:
Let's get social! In this day in age, it could be argued that using social media in some shape or
form is almost impossible. It's more than just vomiting your thoughts into the ether. It's about
connection. Whether it's personal, professional, networking or finding like-minded people who
share the same interests or values as you do. That being said, choosing what social platforms
we subscribe to or how often we check or participate on them is still up to us.
The socials were already the wilderness but with the advent of the rona, things have really
kicked into high gear.

What social media platforms do you use and why do? Pick your fighter.

What did your feeds look like before and how have things changed?

Now that you're at home do you find yourself having to actively avoid the tl or do you now
belong to the tl streets?

Let's talk about content that is not cute right now. Everyone has taken to the socials to while
away time, blow off some steam, share tips etc.
What content has you all messed up right now that you could honestly do without?
Where is it coming from?

In the works segment:

Apart from the mundane stuff like work and school that you have going on, what else has your
attention? Have you started a side hustle? A new hobby? What are you working on so that you
can get your creative, networking or entrepreneurial juices flowing?

Going back to the unpleasant content and fake news that you've come across:

How are you trying to limit your exposure, and even for those you care about, to it?

Everyone has something to say and the truth is, you've gotta stay informed.
Do you feel some type of responsibility to counter fake news with facts?
If yes, where are you getting your information?

Its seems that everyone agrees that the South African government has really shown up and is
showing up for the country right now #countryduty

Do you agree?
Are you surprised?
What would you have done differently?
How do you feel about the lock-down possibly going on after the 21 days?

Self-care plug segment:

We all know how important it is to spare some time for yourself in a time where everyone seems
to be taking. From work and school to family and friends. Have you tried anything new to try and
switch off the noise? How are you looking after yourself mentally and physically? Any new
self-care techniques that you're trying out? Any old ones that you've dusted off and are doing
again? Any social pages, books, music or websites that help you do this?

Episode 2: Just add Vaseline.

Love to see it segment:

We’re recognising positive vibes with a special mention of someone’s special achievement or
something great that’s caught your attention which you would like to see more of or simply
share with everybody.

Leave it on read/reclaiming our time:

On the flip side of all things good, there's always some craziness out there that makes you
shake your head or sigh in disbelief. Tell us about it and why you're not letting take up room in
your head.

The flow:
In a regular working environment, the majority of us either work in an office or use a
combination of office and working from home. Given recent developments surrounding
Covid-19, we have all been required to make a few adjustments regarding communication and
the execution of work objectives.

Let's be honest, maintaining a clear head while navigating work, friendships and relationships is
already a challenge. Tell us some of the craziest things that have been happening in the virtual
world of work since the lock-down began?
Are your colleagues spiralling out or is everyone still keeping things low-key?

Name one or two things that you won't soon forget which your colleagues have been up to so
far.
Are you guilty of any "craziness"?
Are these new or have they taken this new, complex and maybe even crazy shape because of
the virus?
Do you sometimes feel like you're spiralling? How are you maintaining your grip on sanity and
reality?
Is it much of a challenge if at all?
Many people on social media have mentioned losing a sense of time. Not knowing what time or
day it is sometimes. Since you're having to work from home now are you keeping some sort of
schedule or is everything flowing into each other?
Everyone has their own idea of what is and isn't working. How are you making things work?

In the works segment:

Apart from the mundane stuff like work and school that you have going on, what else has your
attention? Have you started a side hustle? A new hobby? What are you working on so that you
can get your creative, networking or entrepreneurial juices flowing?

Self-care plug segment:

We all know how important it is to spare some time for yourself in a time where everyone seems

How is each relevant to your topic and angle?

These episodes have been developed with the intention to communicate to listeners that there
are other contemporary South Africans who share their concerns and or views about working,
school, friendships, relationships and bring similar or different perspectives on how to put
yourself, your needs and mental health first always before addressing external challenges.
Episodes 1 and 2 discuss two popular topics that South Africans are finding to be very
challenging in recent times: social media and working from home.

Structured like a conversation with questions as queues to stimulate recollection, these

episodes invite guests to discuss what they’ve found positive and negative during this time.
These episodes tackle the stress and daily struggles of maintaining a clear and level head
during an uncertain time. Since the advent of COVID-19, much like the entire globe, South
Africans have found themselves having to make adjustments in several, if not all, areas of their
lives and develop new techniques to ensure the health and survival of themselves and their
loved ones. It also prompts a personal development focus and self-care by encouraging them to
share what self-improvement activities they are engaged in as well as techniques they are
finding useful for soothing and being kinder to themselves.

Part Three: Social Media

You have a product, it’s time to make sure that your target audience knows about it.

You need to make a post on each of the social media platforms you chose in Part 1 giving a
clear message that your podcast series is live and ready to enjoy, and where they can find it.
Don’t forget your best practice for creating social media posts. They have to be engaging and
original. Screenshot the posts and past them into your template.
