MountBlue Technologies

● What is MountBlue?
MountBlue helps companies (primarily product startups) with their entry level tech hiring needs. On the other
hand, MountBlue hires candidates, trains them for high end software engineering roles and deploys them with
great companies, primarily startups. It serves as a launching pad for folks looking to start their software
engineering career.

● What is the objective of MountBlue?


To help launch great Software Engineering careers.

● Is there any degree/branch requirement for joining MountBlue?


No, there are no degree or branch requirements to join MountBlue.

● What is the minimum and maximum age limit of joining MountBlue?


Minimum age is 18 years. Maximum no limit.

● What happens at MountBlue?


The MountBlue job offer is an ~16 month contract and it includes:
○ Training period: For the first ~3 months you will be trained to become a FullStack Engineer
○ Deployment period: After successfully completing the training, you will be sent to one of our clients to
work in their engineering team. The duration of this deployment period is 12-13 months

● What happens after the deployment period ?


Generally (in 95% of the cases) the client company makes you a compelling job offer to join them directly.

● What is the offer at MountBlue?


MountBlue currently (as of April 2021) offers a stipend of INR10K in the training period and offers a salary of
INR4LPA in the deployment period. See the job description for more details -

● What are the training tracks at MountBlue?


Everyone who joins MountBlue is expected to be a full stack developer. There is some language specific
training but most of the curriculum is the same. MountBlue decides the track allocation according to customer
demand.

The common curriculum is Command Line Interface, Git (version control system), HTML, CSS, JavaScript,
Core Programming Language, SQL database (generally PostgreSQL), Library/Framework for your track
Currently there are 3 full stack web development stacks in MountBlue.

In the past there have been other tracks (may or may not get offered in future):

● What is the MountBlue interview process?


To join MountBlue, you need to complete a challenge and submit it. Coding tests are currently on hold.

● What is the offer after the MountBlue deployment period?


As of April 2021, most trainees get offers between INR7LPA to INR9LPA after completing their entire period at
MountBlue. There have also been 5LPA and 25LPA offers but they are outliers.

● What happens if I don't get an offer after completing the entire MountBlue training and deployment
period?
This is very rare (<5% of cases). If you did your best and are willing to work hard, MountBlue will assist you
with job search.

● Do I have to sign a bond? When does the bond period start?


Yes, there is a service bond at MountBlue for the entirety of the training and deployment period. The bond
period starts from the date of joining.

● Do I need to come to Bengaluru to sign the bond?


No, the process is done remotely as of April 2021.
● Can I leave MountBlue?
You can leave MountBlue anytime and if you choose to do so you are liable to pay the bond amount as
mentioned in the offer letter.

● Does MountBlue provide any accommodation when we join in-office?


No, MountBlue does not provide accommodation. There are many PGs near the MountBlue office location.

● I have another offer from X, how can I negotiate my offer with MountBlue?
MountBlue offers the same salary to all trainees. It is public on the MountBlue website. There is no negotiation.

● Do I have to submit my original documents to join MountBlue?


No, you don’t have to submit your original documents. In the past trainees were required to submit original
documents. This is no longer the case.

● I am currently working in a company and have a notice period of X months. Can I join after serving the
notice period?
At MountBlue, we run the program in cohorts. And each cohort has a fixed joining date. So there will always be
a gap between your last working day at your current company and the joining date at MountBlue. Please reply
to the offer letter email and we will help you figure this out.

● I am currently pursuing my studies and have not graduated yet, what are the next steps for me?
If your college officially allows joining early in the 7th or 8th semester, and if you do not need more than a
couple of days for your examinations, you can join us now. Else we recommend you to complete your studies
and examinations and then join us. Please reply to the offer letter email with your college details and tentative
examination dates.

● My college allows me to work while completing my studies, but I will need holidays for the
examinations. Can I join now?
If you need only a couple of days for examinations it should be okay. If you need more time, then we
recommend you to join after completing your examinations. Please reply to the offer letter email with your
college details and tentative examination dates.

● Will the training start remotely or in the office?


As of April 2021, training starts remotely. You will be asked to join in Bengaluru to complete the last part of your
training.

● Can I choose the technology track for my training?


We will consider your preference for the technology track but can’t guarantee it. The technology tracks and the
students in each track are a function of the customer demand at MountBlue.
● What happens during the training period?
Each trainee is assigned a mentor. The trainee will complete a series of projects of increasing complexity. The
mentor gives him/her feedback and does rigorous code reviews at each step of the process.

● Will there be an exam at the end of the training period?


There is no exam at the end of the training period. The training is a process of continuous assessment and
feedback based on the code that you have written.

● Is there any gap between the training period and the deployment period?
Generally, there is no gap between the training and the deployment period. Most trainees are deployed within a
week of the end of the training period.

● Can I choose the company for my deployment?


No, you cannot choose a company for your deployment. We believe your mentors at MountBlue are in the best
position to decide which company you will be deployed to. The companies and the trainees are matched based
on multiple factors like - your tech skills, communication skills, work ethic, the company requirements, the
company profile, the company technology stack, etc.

● After completing training, do I have to give interviews for deployment?


More than 95% of the companies we partner with do not take interviews for deployment. They assess you on
actual work over a few weeks, the actual work includes bug fixes, sample projects, or feature development.
Having said that, some companies may take your interview, but this number is less than 5%

● Will I get deployed to a company in a different city? / Will I have to relocate to a different city for my
deployment?
You may get deployed and relocate to a city mentioned in your offer letter.

● Can I change the cities I am open for deployment?


MountBlue has decided to make you an offer based on multiple factors. One factor is the cities you are open
for deployment. If you would like to change the cities you are open for deployment, you can let us know before
joining. Do note that this may mean that we can no more make you the offer.

● Will I get a laptop from the company where I am deployed?


The company where you are deployed may or may not give you a laptop. Most companies do but if your
company does not, you have to use your own device.

● Can I use Windows during the training period?


No, you need to use a Linux/Unix-based machine for the bootcamp.

● I have only 4GB RAM on my laptop, is that enough?


It is enough to get started, but it might prove to be a problem as the training progresses.
● I already have Linux, do I still need to install Ubuntu?
No, continue using whatever flavor of Linux you are using.

● Can I use Windows Subsystem instead of installing Linux?


No, you cannot use Windows Subsystem.

● I have seen some negative reviews on the Internet/Social media?


In any system, there will always be disgruntled people. You can get factual information by:

MountBlue Prep Program:
● What is MountBlue Prep ?
It is a free training program to help you develop problem solving skills. This will help you in clearing technical
interviews for entry level positions. Also, if you complete MountBlue prep successfully, you will get a job
offer from MountBlue.

● Why MountBlue Prep ?


We believe that with consistent effort one can develop basic problem solving skills which is a fundamental
requirement to start a software engineering career. The purpose of MountBlue Prep is to help anyone develop
problem solving skills and get an entry level development job.

● Why is MountBlue doing this?


MountBlue hires candidates throughout the year. Around 80,000 people apply to MountBlue every year. But
only 200 odd people have decent programming ability to qualify. We are not able to fill up our entire capacity.

We have found a lot of the candidates have decent aptitude but lack problem solving skills. MountBlue Prep is
a program to bridge that gap. Even solving 80 to 100 problems puts you in decent shape to join MountBlue.
MountBlue has hired around 150 trainees from the Prep program.

● What should I do to register for MountBlue Prep ?

Complete the MountBlue Job Challenge on Hackerrank at


https://www.hackerrank.com/mountblue-technologies and submit your details. After that, a MountBlue mentor
will talk with you directly and take a short interview.

● What is the cost of MountBlue Prep?


MountBlue Prep is a free training program.

● Where is the training conducted?


MountBlue Prep training is online. There are daily sessions and you can also do it at your own pace.

● I am a beginner. What should I do ?


If you are an absolute beginner, we recommend you start learning JavaScript. First complete the
FreeCodeCamp JavaScript certification
Then proceed to solve HackerRank questions. We will also refer to other platforms to gradually improve your
problem solving skills.
● As a beginner, why JavaScript ?
JavaScript engineers are in popular demand in the industry now. Also, it is a beginner friendly language, can
be used to build frontend, backend, mobile applications and has a huge online community which is super
helpful.

● What will happen in MountBlue prep?


QA sessions and problem solving workshops every weekday by a mentor

● What is the difference between Propel School and MountBlue Prep?


MountBlue Prep and Propel School are the same training course. The branding was Propel School from
November 2018 to February 2021.
From February 8, 2021 it is called MountBlue Prep.

● Where do I submit my details after completing the challenge? / How do I join MountBlue prep track?

● In what programming language can I complete this challenge? / Can I use


Java/Python/C++/C/PHP/Ruby/C# to complete this challenge?
Any programming language is okay

● Why should I do this challenge?


We have selected ~120 problems from different topics like Arrays, Strings, 2D arrays, Recursion, Hashmaps.
Solving these problems will make you strong in the basics of programming. Remember practice makes perfect.

● How long does it take to complete this challenge?


It takes anywhere between 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the time that you dedicate and your problem
solving ability.

● What is FreeCodeCamp?
FreeCodeCamp is a non-profit organization that helps people learn to code for free.

● Why did we choose FreeCodeCamp for beginner programmers?


It provides a good beginner friendly interface to get started with programming in JavaScript.

● What is HackerRank?
HackerRank platform provides programming challenges on a wide variety of languages and topics.
● Why HackerRank for the programming challenges?

● It provides function stubs to only focus on the logic and not the whole program.
● It provides debug output while running the program. This helps you to put print statements and debug
your program directly.
● It helps you get familiar with the HackerRank platform. Lot of companies use Hackerrank or similar
platforms for conducting technical interviews. We use the same platform in our direct test.

● Will I receive a certificate for attending MountBlue Prep?


No, there is no certificate for attending this program. MountBlue Prep is not designed to be a resume bullet
point- it’s purpose is to to help you launch into a great tech career

● What if I cheat from others or the internet and complete this challenge?

The whole objective of MountBlue Prep is defeated. If you copy, it will not improve your problem solving skills.
If a mentor catches you cheating or lying in the interview process, you will be blacklisted from further
interviews. Even if you somehow make it to MountBlue by cheating, you will be found out in the first week and
blacklisted. Do not be in a hurry to get a job - be in a hurry to improve. Job, MountBlue or otherwise will take
care of itself
