Me and My Community

According to Section 3 of Republic Act 9163 or the National Service Training

Program (NSTP) Act of 2001, NSTP-CTWS refers to programs or activities
contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the
community, especially those developed to improve health, education, the
environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation, and morals of the citizenry.

NSTP-CWTS requires us to actively participate in the different programs of the

government which aim to benefit the people. However, as an individual who values
nationalism, I also believe that the government should also be criticized as to how
they respond to social issues. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic made me
realize that it is important to follow the rules implemented by the government, but it’s
also vital to speak about the lapses of the authorities.

As an Iskolar ng Bayan, I would encourage my fellow youth to become more

politically aware because, to me, the COVID-19 crisis is currently not the main
problem in our country; it is the corruption and incompetency among government
officials. In CWTS, we are tasked with contributing to the general welfare and the
betterment of life for the members of the community. Therefore, we should exercise
our right to vote in the upcoming elections. When we have competent leaders, that’s
when the different aspects of our society, such as education, health care, and the
environment, will start to improve. If we want a better society, then we must vote
wisely!
