In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. He then hid

and watched to see if anyone would move the boulder out of the way. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.
Many people loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.
A peasant then came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon
approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to push the
stone out of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded.
When the peasant went back to pick up his vegetables, he noticed a purse
lying on the spot where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins
and a note from the king, explaining that the gold was for the person who removed
the boulder from the roadway.

U C N

Change is constant in this world. We see it in our environment, climate,

government, and technology. It also shapes a world characterized by volatility,
uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA).

Volatility refers to the instability shaped by small and big changes that
are increasingly becoming unpredictable. It leads to difficulty in determining cause
and effect.

4
Uncertainty is the difficulty of anticipating or predicting events that
resulted from historical forecasts and past experiences losing their value in
predicting what is to come.

Complexity is the condition of having problems that are increasingly

becoming more complicated and difficult to understand.

Ambiguity is the state where situations or circumstances are unclear,

causing difficulty in decision-making.

We need to learn to adjust to thrive in the VUCA world. That includes

improving our capacity to assess emerging situations and taking appropriate actions.

Directions: Read the text, then answer the questions that follow.

Coronavirus

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly

discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people and
those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes,
chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed
about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes, and how it spreads. Protect yourself
and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub
frequently and not touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge

from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it's important that you
also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).
