Absolut Vodka is a brand of vodka, produced near Åhus, in southern
Sweden. Absolut is a part of the French group Pernod Ricard. Pernod
Ricard bought Absolut for €5.63 billion in 2008 from the Swedish state.
Absolut is one of the largest brands of spirits in the world (after Smirnoff,
Bacardi) and is sold in 126 countries.

HISTORY OF ABSOLUTE VODKA

Lars Olsson Smith and is produced in Åhus, Sweden. Smith challenged the city of
Stockholm's liquor marketing monopoly with his vodka. It was sold outside the city border at
a lower price than the monopoly's product. Smith offered free boat rides to the distillery and
"Rent Brännvin" was highly successful.

1917, the Swedish government monopolized the country's
alcohol industry. Vodka was then sold nationwide under the
name "Absolut Rent Brännvin". In 1979, Absolut Vodka was
introduced to the global market in 1979. Today, Absolut sells
over 100 million litres of vodka annually (2018).

Lars Olsson Smith was born in 1836 in Kiaby and died in 1913 in Karlskrona, Sweden. LO
Smith is a businessman, MP and founder of Absolute Rent Brännvin (Truly Pure Spirit). It
was the inspiration for Absolute Vodka. LO Smith launched a method that removes
contaminants such as glut in the spirit. LO Smith comes from a farming family in Blekinge
and quickly made a career in retail trade when he was 6 years old. He then moved to
Stockholm and began producing and selling vodka at his factory in Reimersholme.

Launched in New York City in 1979, Absolut vodka has created a new revolution in
the world of vodka. This is supported by the proud heritage of Sweden which is 100 years old
from its inventor, Lars Olsson Smith, Absolut vodka is now the number one premium vodka
in the world.

The raw materials for Absolute all come from one source: hus, which is located in
southern Sweden. Every Absolut product is also produced here making it easier for full
supervision for every stage of the process. The spring for Absolute comes from the hus spring
itself. Naturally filtered through bedrock for thousands of years, the pure water here has a soft
and delicious character. Winter wheat as a raw material also comes from the surrounding
fields and gives Absolut a unique taste character. According to the first method used by Lars
Olsson Smith in 1879, the continuous filtering process hundreds of times produces a very
pure essence.
