Solve the following problems applying the Polya’ 4-step rule.

1. A parking lot has motorcycles and cars. How many motorcycles and cars are there in
a parking lot with 13 vehicles and 40 tires?
x+2(13-x)40
4x+26-2x=40
4x-2x=40-26
2x=14
x=7
7x4=28
2x+4(13-x)=40
2x+52-4x=40
2x-4x=40-52
-2x=-12
x=6
Answer: 6motorcycles and 7cars
2. If 2 persons handshake only once with everyone else, how many handshakes occur in
6 people?
1/2(6x5)=15
15-3= 12
6people = 12handshakes

they have 2 wins and 2 losses in four games.
n! /x!y! (where x is wins and y is the losses)

24/4= 6
Therefore, There are 6 orders the baseball team could have 2wins and 2 losses for the 4
games.

15x17x18=4590
Therefore, Their ages are 15,17 and 18.
5. A shirt and a tie together cost P 500. The shirt cost P 300 more than the tie. What is
the cost of a shirt?
X+Y=500 (Let X=Shirt ,Y=Tie)
300+2y=500
Y=100
X=500-100
X=400
The shirt cost 400 while the tie cost 100.
