UNIT IV Contemporary E-Learning and ICT Issues

Overview

This module will provide various activities that will enrich your

knowledge about the contemporary e-learning and ICT issues. These can be

helpful in your future career and the proper exercise of digital citizens by

knowing the netiquettes, transgression to the internet protocols which involved

cybercrimes and cyber bullying as well as the importance of IPR or Intellectual

Property Rights.

Objectives: At the end of the unit, I am able to :

1.Familiarize with the current trends in the use of e-learning collaborative tools

and contemporary ICT Issues.

2.Utilize the e-learning collaborative tools, applications and education software in

individual and group activities.

3.Display critical and creative thinking in various issues involving responsible

digital citizenship, netiquettes, as well as cybercrimes and cyberbullying.

4.Discuss the value of Intellectual Property Rights and issues about plagiarism

Expanding Your knowledge

As users of technology especially the internet, we are expected to display proper

behavior and online ethics which we call netiquettes in the present world. Proper attitude

and values should also be displayed both in person and in virtual community where we

are all part of. With the COVID 19 Pandemic that affected the entire world. Integration of

technology in teaching and learning has been the major activity of all schools. The

educational system and delivery of instruction have been affected dramatically during the

lockdown with the threat of the massive spread of corona virus.

Thus, closure of school year and shifting to online learning were resorted to by

schools in facing the new normal. Teachers were trained and logistically the schools now

are preparing. Different policies were crafted to cater to the needs of the students. Those

students with internet connection will undergo online or distance learning with the use of

any learning management system or educational software or applications while students

who have no internet capability under the flexible learning will utilize modular approach.

Various learning tools are currently being used by educators worldwide. Schools

use where students can access lessons through the different learning management

systems (EDMODO,Schoology,Google Classroom,Moodle,Canvas, Blackboard and the

like) for those students with internet connection .Access to the websites related to these

LMS can be availed either with a free or trial version or where the school can purchase

the entire version. Links will be posted in our social media group for PROFED 4 students

for more details.

With the heavy use of e-learning tools and exposure of the present

generation such as the Millennials or Gen.Y and Generation Alpha, schools must

strengthen the campaign for educating them of how to become responsible digital

citizens. Integration of Digital Citizenship and Netiquettes as well as the legal

issues and laws related to cyber crimes and intellectual property rights must also

be done. Honesty and respect must be accorded online to whoever we are

dealing with and display of positive use of ICT as well must be done at all times

especially that you will be a future teacher. Academic dishonesty like plagiarism

is frowned upon as well as cyberbullying .

As embodied in the four pillars of education ,quality and relevant

education must be able to provide knowledge,skills,values and attitudes and the

inclusion of digital citizenship is part of the major changes in our current

educational system.
