KEY FEATURES OF DIASPORIC LITERATURE WITH RESPECT

TO KEKI DARUWALLA’S POEM “MIGRATION”

Diasporic writing occupies a place of great significance between countries and cultures.
Migration takes place due to various reasons and in the Indian context the migratory
movements were governed by historical, political, economic reasons. Sometimes people have
been moved forcefully from their homeland. The chief characteristic features of the diasporic
writings are the quest for identity, uprooting and re-rooting, insider and outsider syndrome,
nostalgia, nagging sense of guilt etc. The diasporic writers turn to their homeland for various
reasons. But they no longer feel it as their homeland. They no longer feel the connect. Migration
be it place or time is difficult. It causes a lot of losses. When the migrant thinks of the past he
becomes thoughtful like the monsoon clouds which gather but doesn’t break down.
