Apple Inc has always focused on hiring people who they think will felt best in the company

culture. That
is because it has always been a very important part of how the company views itself. The company has
always been a huge advocate of the ‘work hard and play hard’ ethic. Apple has a reward system that
works with a do or die system. Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple has been regarded as the best marketer in
the world. He was a transformational leader with the simple agenda of creativity and innovation in
mind. The structure at Apple has become complex than initially perceived over the years. It is interesting
how Apple always has had a unique culture which was not very formal and hierarchical, rather hybrid.
Given the situation now, apple really needs to engage itself in a leadership re-orientation in order to
maintain its status quotient.

A major problem with the work culture in Apple is the unjustified long hours and the atmosphere of
secrecy. Apple is known to have a very high level of confidentiality since the beginning because they
believe this is what makes them different from other competitors. If anyone failed to comply with
either, they do face harsh consequences. Now this is something that would impact employee
satisfaction. On one hand pressure is a part of corporate culture and even google which is known for its
employee-oriented culture faces issues on that part. Apple on the other hand is majorly known because
of its strong focus on performance and productivity with, or without pressure. If we look at the history
of the company it is justified since during the era of Steve Jobs, this was a part of any corporate job. But
now that things have changed and there is always a debate on issues like mental health, Apple Inc
seriously needs to re-work their approach. A lot of people have started defining Apple’s work culture as
a bit toxic and sometimes even antagonistic.

Tim Cook has taken some measures to solve these issues. He has made inclusion and diversity an
important part of Apple. He can not do anything about the secrecy and pressure owing to contenders
like Samsung and Huawei but has surely made an effort to make the environment a bit employee
friendly. To remain creative, apple must keep employees happy and content.
