DC Voltmeter
The design of device that can measure the
voltage on the load in the electrical circuits
• Voltmeter is used for measuring voltage or the potential difference. Fig. 3.12 shows the instrument and
symbol of voltmeter.
• The analog voltmeter consists of a meter and set of resistances depends on the no. of ranges for the
required voltmeter.
• The parameters of the meter are : IFSD (Full Scale Deflection Current), and Rm (the meter resistance).
The standard values of IFSD and Rm are around 50µA and 2KΩ respectively.
• if we like to use the meter directly, it can
measure a maximum current of 50µA and
a voltage of 50µA*2KΩ = 0.1V.
• if a voltage of more than 0.1 V is to be
measured it is necessary to use a series
resistance Rrange is such a manner that
the voltage applied to the meter is 0.1 V is
case of the application of full voltage on
the voltmeter (full range voltage).
