Anchor

Anchor is a person who sits down in front of camera and delivers the
news to the people. They report news stories and events happening on a
local, national, and international level.

Also called as anchorman, anchorwoman, news presenter, newsreader,


newscaster, news anchor or simply anchor. The terms anchor and
anchorman are derived from the usage common in relay racing,
specifically the anchor leg, where the position is typically given to the
fastest or most experienced competitor on a team. All anchors are
broadcasters but not all broadcasters are anchors.

Examples of anchors here in Philippines are: Noli de Castro, Anthony


Taberna, Gretchen Fullido, Arnold Clavio, Mel Tiangco, Mike Enriquez,
Pinky Webb, Gretchen Ho, Maki Pulido and more.
Reporter

A Reporter is a type of journalist who researches, writes, gathers and


reports on information as for a newspaper, wire service, or television
station. They may present on television.

Reporter comes from Old French reporteur which means “one who gives
an account” of what was said or done by another. Both the anchor and the
reporter gather news on the current events and deliver it to people but the
anchor is the one that introduces the headlines, crew, or in short, the host of
the show.

Examples of reporter here in the Philippines are Lhar Santiago, Bernadette


Sembrano, Julius Babao, Doris Bigornia, Raffy Tulfo, Pia Arcangel, Lourd
de Veyra, Alvin Enchico, Vicky Morales, Erwin Tulfo, Ted Failon, Mariz
Umali, Solita Monsod, and more.
Photographer

Photographers photographs, edits, displays images in order to tell a visual


story. They are journalistic professionals that are skilled at interpreting and
communicating an event through photographs. They capture through their
cameras and express their personalities and viewpoints through their art.

Photographers in journalism are also called Photojournalists.


Photojournalism is the combination of photography and journalism which
means “the use of photographs to tell stories in journalism”.
Photojournalism was the first medium to depict social problems throughout
the world to mass audience.

Examples of photojournalists in the Philippines are Hannah Reyes Morales,


Raffy Lerma, Eloisa Lopez, Ezra Acayan, Cheryl Diaz Meyer, Jay Directo,
Edgardo Santiago, Marvi Lacar and more.
Producer

A News Producer is the person who takes all the elements that have been
gathered throughout the day, (packages, video, graphics) compiles them
and constructs a newscast. They organize the show, write the script, write
in-show and pre-show teases, coordinate live shots, and more.

Producer means “one who or that which produces”. There are different
types of producers like Executive producer, Associate producer, Producer,
Co-Producer, Line producer, Supervising or development producer,
Coordinating producer, Consulting producer, Segment producer, and Field
Producer.

Examples of news producers are Marielle Gaceta-Catbagan, Donna May


Lina, Paul Michael Caisip, Blueberry Recto, Charie Abarca, Patrick
Obsuma, Trisha Garin and more.
Field Producer
(Or Field Editor)

The Field Producer is a coordinator for a story while the crew is in the
field. They generally oversee the production of a story, working with a
reporter and photographer to set up interviews, gather video and collect
information.

Field producer is one of the different types of producers. They manage the
production of material in the field. Field producers coordinate stories
outside the studio. They commonly work in areas of production such as
documentary film making, news reporting, and reality television. They act
as a coordinator and liaison between people in the studio, the field crew,
and the subject or actors.

Examples of field producer are Paterno R. Esmaquel II, Leonard Reyes,


Vittoria Elliott, Fatima Caberos Dennis Cortez and more.

1. What have you learned?
- I learned that there are many positions in the broadcast
newsroom and all of them must work together to make the
news program work.

2. What are the things you like most?


- I like the topic; it is very interesting. I also like our teacher
he is understanding, patient, and he explains the topic pretty
well.

3. What are the things you Don’t like?


- I sometimes don't like the subject mainly because of the topic.
Sometimes the topic is stating the obvious and that makes it
boring for me.

4. What can you say to your subject/ teacher?


- I have nothing to say I think the flaws are getting resolve
already and that is my only concern.

5. What are your recommendations?


- I recommend choosing topics that are connected to today’s
issue like the transparency of journalists, why news is not
biased and are credible sources.
