Keeping up with IT
Samuel is in his mid-40s and has worked for Andres enterprises for almost 20
years. Samuel has seen the enterprise grow from just over 20 employees when
he started to work for the enterprise to over 200 today. Even though Samuel has
been promoted over the years and his responsibility has increased, he has
recently become worried about his future at the enterprise. This has something
to do with his uneasiness in the use of computers. For the past five years, this
was not much of a concern since computers were not used in any HR
applications. But with Internet gaining so much popularity especially in its
application in the field of HR, Samuel is starting to be restless. He feels he is no
longer young to learn the new technology aside from the fact that he is having a
hard time understanding the system. Because Samuel is so far behind his
colleagues when it comes to using the new technology, he is shy to ask for help.
To make matters worse, a memo was issued by the head of HR informing
everyone to actively use the HRIS in the different HR functions, including the
processing of applicants, payroll computations, and the employees benefits
administration.
1. State Samuel’s main problem is that he can’t keep up with the system and
new technology it affected him he became unease, stressed and he’s too shy to
ask for help that resulted to him being left behind by his colleagues.
Possible Threats for Samuel: He will be left behind by his colleagues who has
knowledge about their new system and technology. His job might suffer to the
point that he might be demoted if he can’t keep up with the pace of the new
technology especially that new employees can be hired that is expert when it
comes to the new system and technology.
A. Their office should conduct a seminar or training about their new system
or technology for their employees that doesn’t know about it so they can have
an idea about it on how they should operate it. If not Samuel should attend
that kind of seminar or training for himself so he can learn new things that is
essential to his job.
B. Their office can hire a new employees that is expert in line with that work
that can help Samuel in his job it will be also good for their company because
if they fired Samuel it might affect them by hiring a new employee with no
experience unlike Samuel who had 20 years of experience plus if he learned
how to use the new technology that they have it will be good for their
company.
C. Samuel can also ask his colleagues for help that it’s hard for him to
understand their new technology it will also be good for their relationship at
work it can also lessen his shyness towards his colleagues and I think their
office need to have a team building for them to have strong bond or they can
do an open forum activity about their work or their relationships so they know
that they can be open to one another.
