1. Yes, Indonesian dances reflect the richness and diversity of indonesian ethnic groups and
cultures. There are more than 700 ethnic groups in Indonesian, it can be seen from the
cultural roots of the Austronesian and Melanesian peoples, influenced by various cultures
from neighbouring countries in Asia and even western influences which were absorbed
through colonialization. Every ethnic group in Indonesian has its own distinctive dances. In
Indonesia, there are more than 3000 indigenous Indonesian dances. Ancient traditions of
dance amd drama are preserved in various dance studios and schools that are protected by
the palace of government-run art academics.

3. In looking at the relationship between language and culture, Kramsch (1998, quoted
from Risager 2006) sees language in its function to express, display, and symbolize
cultural reality. By using language, humans not only articulate experiences, facts,
ideas and work to each other, but also convey attitudes, beliefs, and points of view.
Language also displays cultural reality by helping humans create experiences. The
experience becomes meaningful when language becomes the medium. Still
according to Kramsch (1998, quoted from Risager 2006), cultural experience is also
symbolized by language. Language becomes a cultural symbol beacuse, as a sign
system, language contains cultural values. Humans are able to recognize and
distinguish one another more or less through the process of observing how they use
language.

4. Each ethnic group has its own characteristics or characters, both in terms of social
and cultural aspects. Conflicts caused by cultural factors are triggered due to
discreapancies in the implementation of norms, values, and social interests due to
the process of social change and heterogeneous or multicultural patterns of society.
