Topic/Title: Polygons

Grade Level/Section: Grade 7

Learning Competencies and Objectives

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes and sizes, and
geometric relationships.

Performance Standard: The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and solve accurately
authentic problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.

MELC: The learner illustrates polygons: (a) convexity; (b) angles; and (c) sides. (M7GEIIIe-2)

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. describe a polygon and its parts,
2. illustrate different kinds of polygons,
3. appreciate the importance of polygons in real life.

Description of Localization/Indigenization
Use of real-life situation
Using indigenous materials (bamboo sticks)
Using the surroundings (signages, tables, chairs, etc.)

Materials
PowerPoint Presentation, Video Clip, Manila Paper, Ruler, Markers, Activity Sheet, Score Sheets, Score Board,
Rubrics

Related Subjects/Topics
English – using the prefix “poly”
EsP – valuing teamwork/cooperation, time awareness on tasks.
Art – creating a polygon from materials given

Procedure

I. Preliminary Activities
A. Prayer
B. Greetings
C. Checking of Attendance
For those students who have chronic illness and cannot attend classes because their health condition
may worsen due to the danger brought by COVID 19/20, activity sheets/modules will be send to them
by the teacher which will be collected after they accomplished the tasks. House Rules – Focus on the
Tasks Given, Show Respect to Everybody, Follow Safety Health Protocols (wearing of masks, using
alcohol to clean hands/surfaces, follow social distancing)
II. Lesson Proper
A. Elicit
The teacher will show one picture at a time and ask students to describe each picture in one word using
the prefix poly.

POLYNOMIAL

After the pictures are shown, these questions will be asked:

1. What is the meaning of the prefix poly?
2. What is a polygon? Name some examples of a polygon.

Indicator 1 is achieved here when the teacher integrated knowledge in English by exploring and using the
prefix ‘poly’ in describing the pictures shown. Indicator 3 is also achieved through the use of PowerPoint
Presentation to facilitate the flow of the lesson.

B. Engage
The students will put the figures given to them under the correct column in the table below.

Figures Table

POLYGONS NOT POLYGONS

Indicator 3 is accomplished here since the teacher used printed materials (shapes) in delivering her
lesson about polygons.
C. Explore
Group Activity (Family Feud Game): The students will fill in the table below based on their observation
of the pictures shown in the previous activity. Each group will take turn in giving word/s to describe
when is a shape considered as polygon and when nit is not a polygon.
POLYGON NOT A POLYGON

Indicator 3 is accomplished here since the teacher used a computer program/application to

facilitate students’ activity smoothly.
D. Explain
Group Activity: Each group will be asked to cite example of polygons they encounter in real life. Then, they
will illustrate (using bamboo sticks), describe, and name the parts asked in their activity sheets. Rubrics will
be distributed to each group as basis for scoring their other group’s presentation/output. Each group is
given 3 minutes to present and explain their output.

Indicator 2 is accomplished when each group was asked to rate other group’s presentation based on what is stated in the
rubrics. Students rated objectively and fairly. Hence bullying and unfair treatments (that can arise from student’s status,
experience, etc.) were avoided
