SUBJUNCTIVE

Subjuctive digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu keinginan atau keadaan yang tidak terpenuhi atau
situasi yang bertentangan dengan fakta.

Beberapa kata yang menunjukan itu subjunctive adalah wish, if only, would rather,as if, as
though,suppose, would to.

PENGGUNAAN SUVJUCTIVE

1. Menunjukan present atau future tense, Maka PAST TENSE digunakan dalam kalimat.
Pattern : Subject + wish...+Subject + would / could
e.g. It is going to be a good party tomorrow. I wish indra could come.
( fact : Indra may come to the party or may not come )

2. Menunjukan Present tense


Pattern : Subject + Wish ... +Subject + past Verb
e.g.
I wish I knew how to do it . (fact : I don’t know )
If only I lived in Bali . ( fact : I don’t live in Bali )

3. Penggunaan as if/as though dalam bentuk past subjunctive


Pattern : Subject + present/past verb + as if / as though + Subject + Past Verb
e.g. He behaves as if he were the owner of the company.
(fact: He is not the owner)

4. Bentuk Subjuctive sesudah would rather untuk menyatakan pilihan lebih suka.
 Menunjukan present tense
Pattern : Subject + would rather + that + subject past tense
e.g.
I would rather you told me the news
( fact : You don’t tell me he news )

 Menunjukan past tense


Pattern : Subject + would rather+that+Subject + Past perfect tense
e.g. Bambang would rather that I had not been cold last night.
( Fact : I was cold last night )
