Feelings
I feel amazed about the merger of LANDBANK and UCPB, since I don’t often read an
article about a merger between two businesses, especially now that I have accounted for a
business combination as a course subject. I’m glad that the government helps the merger of two
banks since UPCB is acquired by the government, generally to help the coconut farmers. The
merge would be really helpful for both companies since the two banks will benefit from it,
especially in their long-term plans.
Discoveries
According to the article, the merger has been approved by our President, and I think it is
good since their goal is to strengthen the capability to deliver financial services to the coconut
industry. I just found out that LANDBANK mainly lends to the agriculture sector, which will be a
great help for UCPB since they are acquired by the government to help the coconut farmers. It
is good that the merger really benefits both banks since LANDBANK and UCPB’s income grew.
Realizations
I just realized that business combination, especially mergers, really has its advantages
specifically for both companies. They are given by the government some aid to help the
business, and also they both benefit the agriculture sector. Aside from this, competition is
eliminated, thus they have larger opportunities in the market. However, there could be
disadvantages such as stricter regulation and difficulty in management.
