 Joseph Lelyveld is the Pulitzer Prize winner who wrote the book “Mahatma Gandhi and
his struggle with India”, he is in controversy because his book apparently hints at Gandhi
being a bisexual.

 At the Wankhede Stadium in Bombay, the Indian cricket team made history by beating
Sri Lanka in the International Cricket Council World Cup, and hence becoming the world
champions. India had won the cup once earlier, 28 years back, when Kapil Dev was the
team’s captain.

 Nursultan Nazarbayev is the President of Kazakhastan, an autocrat who has been ruling
the country since 1991 is all set to retain power after sham elections were held in the
country

 Yusuf Pathan and Munaf Patel, who were members of the cricket team that won the world
cup will be awarded with the Eklavya Puraskar by the Gujarat Government. Both the

 Gopal Dass, who spent 27 years in a Pakistani jail after having been convicted of the
charge of spying, returned home. Mr. Dass, 52, was set free from the Lahore Central Jail
after Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari remitted his sentence on humanitarian grounds
following an appeal by the Indian Supreme Court. He crossed over to the Indian side of
the border at Attari.
 India took another step towards quality parity with international standards in the realm of
non-clinical chemicals manufacturing when it joined the system for the Mutual
Acceptance of Data (MAD) in the Assessment of Chemicals, a multilateral agreement
supported by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) -
