Recommended Safe Controls
General Use
 All users should have read and understood the Operator’s Manual prior to using, adjusting, or maintaining the Mobile Fuel Tank
(MFT). Only properly trained persons who have been instructed in the safe and proper use shall use an MFT.
 An appropriate type of fire extinguisher must be always readily available for use.
 Keep all sparks, flames, and hot material away from the fuel and the MFT. Do not smoke when operating.
 Complete Daily Pre-use Inspection Checklist before use.
 All users should be familiar with the SDS and hazards of diesel fuel.
 Ensure an adequately sized spill kit is available and located nearby.
 Place all controls in neutral, disconnect power source to pump, and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing, adjusting,
repairing, or cleaning.
 Only use with adequate ventilation, never operate within a closed building.
Refueling
 Keep the tank level when filling.
 Someone needs to be in attendance when filling the MFT or transferring fuel.
 Fill only with a held-held trigger nozzle. Always manually hold the nozzle and depress the trigger when transferring fuel.
 Do not smoke when refueling.
 DO NOT spill fuel on the ground or into the interstitial tank. Use additional secondary containment measures when
necessary.
 DO NOT OVERFILL. 95% full is the MAXIMUM LIMIT.
 Always replace filler cap and turn pump off (lever down) when finished refueling.
Transporting
 The MFT must be securely closed prior to moving or transporting.
 Ensure all valves are closed, and the fill cap is closed and tightened.
 Ensure that the hatch lid is closed and locked on the outer tank.
 All requirements for transportation under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations must be followed, including the
appropriate placards.
 Driver must be appropriately trained under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.
 Shipping papers describing tank and contents must be kept with the vehicle at all times.
 Tank must be securely attached to its means of transport.

*If all measures are followed properly, this activity will reduce the risk rating from Medium to Low risk.

Legislative Inspections
 Under the Transportation of Dangerous Good Act, MFTs are required to be inspected every 60 months (5 years) at a
government registered facility. A record of this inspection must be kept with the MFT and stamped on the metal specification
plate.

*If all measures are followed properly, this activity will reduce the risk rating from Medium to Low risk.
