Student Project Description

Project Brief: “Exploring New Retailing Business Ideas embedded


with Latest Technologies and Innovative Retail Trends in Pakistan.”
Starting a retail business can be an enticing and daunting prospect. On the one hand, you can be
your own boss, enjoy complete creative control, and reap the full rewards of your hard work. On
the other hand, retail business owners must assume large amounts of responsibility, bear the
consequences of poor decisions, and ultimately shoulder the blame for the success or failure of
the business. Owning your own business involves a great deal of effort, sacrifice, and patience.
The students can get help by studying the best retailing businesses working successfully in the
country or world market. Some giant retailing firms like Wal-Mart, Tesco, Carrefour, and Metro
are working in many parts of the world market. These firms can be taken as benchmark for
studying and exploring retailing ideas that can work best in Pakistan.

Project Details:
The major areas of project are product/service nature, location, level of investment, demand and target
market type, branding of outlet and competition. . All groups must provide detail information with respect
to these six factors.

Assignments

Assignment 1

Every group will study 8-10 domestic or multinational companies doing retailing business and highlight
major points regarding what are the major functions of these companies which have made them
successful. The major focus of study will be the practices and processes within the organizations. All
groups shall discuss the material gathered regarding assignment # 1 in class.

Assignment 2

The second assignment is based on the forecasting and budgeting. Suppose if you have to develop a
retailing business of medium level in your hometown, what would be the possible budget and time
required for this project. All groups must visit their nearest retailing outlets and interview on essential
elements to start a retail business of your choice. The data should be collected on details of cost and time
etc? These details must be discussed in class.

Assignment 3

Develop a short report that must contain information about the idea of your retail business, group
member’s role, budget, time, departments, processes, location in town or different cities, promotion etc.
Discuss these details in class with teacher in order to remove deficiencies if any.
