Pedagogical Implications

Affective Filter Hypothesis

Based on the video, we can conclude that affective filter will give impacts to the students:

1. Positive impact

 In a low-stress condition, learners can have higher competence when they

receive comprehensible input.
 For instances, in the video, the conditions of the class was in a very low
stress-conditon.
 Boost their motivation and self-esteem to learn
 Exchange of informations occurs.
 SLA can be obtained efficiently.
 Compared to students that have a high affective filter, students with a low
affective filter can communicate effectively and give good feedback to others.
 In the videos, the childrens exchange info on books they have read.
 As a children told the story to his desk partner, the other person engaged
in the story by asking questions and gave feedbacks on the story.
 Help in SLA effectively.
 They will help the teachers to create a good environment in the classroom and
reduce their friends’ negative feelings.
 Students will be having a low affective filter.
 Helps in learning sncd language.

2. Negative impact:

 related to “classroom environment vs. real life environment”

 In the classroom, students tend to know their peers and they - make it
easier to interact with each other, making SLA easier.
 but when they are in the “real world” they will meet with strangers that
causes them to having lower self-esteem and lower self-confidence to
talk.
 some of the students will form a “mental block” due to their “affective
filter” being raised.
 Result – unable to communicate effectively in real world due to lack of
motivation, low self-esteem and debilitating anxiety.
 The stress of everyday life and communication are uncontrollable variables.
 when the students encounters personal problems outside of school - eg:
family problems – become demotivated to learn at school
 Because of that, their “affective filter” is raised and will be passive in the
classroom.
 Result- students will not be able to learn well at school and next affect
their SLA.
Interactions Hypothesis

Based on the video, there are many positive impacts of Interaction hypothesis:

  The students can talk and communicate among themselves freely.

 The interaction and communication that occurs helps them to develop their
communication skills and next improved their SLA.

 Ex :

 The students were given the chance to ask and answer any question
given by the teacher and exchanging the story or synopsis on the books
that they have read.`

 Students will learn new forms in a language through the negotiation

around meaning that occurs when they engage in communication and
communicative learning activities.

 Teachers did an outstanding job by creating a platform or session in learning and

teaching process for students to use, learn and acquire the language.

 opportunity to interact with other speakers, working together to reach mutual

understanding in the language.
