The collection boxes will be at the corners of D& G and

All money collected is used to purchase warm
clothing for children, infant to 17 years.
Soroptimists, with the assistance of volunteers
oversee the shopping spree on Saturday, December
4th. Volunteers are needed to help on this day as well
to help with the shopping. Any amount of volunteered
time given would be greatly appreciated. Volunteers are
asked to please check at the Elks by 8:45 a.m.
4-H meeting Tuesday
The monthly Valley County 4-H council meeting

OSHA mandate suspension ‘welcome news’ for Montana

The Biden administration
reversed course, suspending its
implementation of the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) COVID-19 vaccine
mandate for private employers after
previously telling businesses they
should proceed despite a court-
ordered pause.
A federal court order
instructed OSHA to “take no
steps to implement or enforce”
its Emergency Temporary
Standard (ETS) until the court
said otherwise. Despite this, the
White House had said businesses
should not wait to comply with
the mandate. Now, Biden’s OSHA
says it has “suspended activities
related to the implementation and
enforcement of the ETS pending
future developments in the
litigation.”
“This is welcome news for
Montanans whose livelihoods
were threatened and for businesses
facing pressure from the Biden
administration despite a federal
court order blocking the mandate.
Employers in Montana have no
reason to force their workers
to choose between a vaccine or
a paycheck, which would be a
violation of state human rights law,”
Montana Attorney General Austin
Knudsen said. “As our lawsuit
against the Biden administration
joins others, I’m continuing to
work with attorneys general from
across the nation in the fight to
strike down this illegal mandate for
good.”

A man was on trial for murder and if convicted,

would get the life imprisonment. His brother found out
that an Irish man was on the jury and figured he would
be the one to bribe.
He told the Irish man that he would be paid
$10,000 if he could convince the rest of the jury to
reduce the charge to manslaughter.
The jury was out an entire week and returned with
a verdict of manslaughter.
After the trial, the brother went to the Irish man’s
house, told him what a great job he had done and paid

High School State football champions crowned

The 2021 Montana High School football is officially
over. Five state champions were crowned Friday and
Saturday in five different classifications, Class AA, A, B.
C 8-man and 6-man.
In the season finale it was the western part of
Montana that came away with four state championships
and the east only one.
Froid-Lake won its second straight 6-man
championship over Power-Dutton-Brady in Dutton.
The Redhawks pitched a shutout in beating the Titans,
43-0. The contest featured the Eastern C champs
going up against the Northern champs. It was the only
championship game that did not have a western team.
The Redhawks finished another perfect season with
a 13-0 record and have won 25 straight games dating
back to last year’s 12-0 season It hasn’t been too long
ago that the Redhawks weren’t winning games while
competing in 8-man football. The drop down to 6-man
was just what the Redhhawks needed.
Javonne Nesbit put the finishing touch on the
championship when he returned a fumble 78-yards
after the Titans had gotten to the 12 yard line with 47
seconds to play in the game. Nesbit forced the turnover
and kept the Titan from scoring.
The Hobbs brothers, Ashdyn and Austen, were the
difference in the game. Ashdyn, a senior, opened the
scoring with a 31-yard run in the first quarter. Austen,
a junior, followed that with a 27-yard TD run for a 14-0
first period lead.
The Redhawks led 29-0 at the half thanks to a
1-yard TD run by Brent Stentoft and a 24-yard pass
from Mason Dethman to Nesbit. Connor Huft also
connected with Dethman in the fourth quarter for an
11-yard scoring pass.
Froid-Lake rushed for 260 yards to finish with 372
total yards. Dethman was 7 for 13 with 109 yards in
passing. The Redhawks defense was just as impressive,
holding the Titans to 72 total yards..
Power-Duttom-Brady hosted its first state
championship game, finishing with an 11-2 record.
Both losses were to Froid-Lake. The Redhawks defeated
the Titans in Medicine Lake in the third game of the
year, 52-22.
Missoula Sentinel (11-0) whipped Billings West
(10-2), 35-6 for the Class AA crown. It was the Spartans
second win this season over the Bears and third in a
year. Sentinel also beat West for the 2020 crown.
Tyson Rostad rushed for 228 yards on 36 carries in
leading Hamilton to a 21-7 win over Laurel for the Class
A title. The Broncs (11-0) won their first title since 1998.
The also avenged a semifinal loss to the Locomotives
last year and in a 1999 championship game. Rostad
scored all three TDs on runs of 4, 34 and 10-yards.
Hamilton rushed for 342 yards, while holding
Laurel to 150 rushing yards and 37 passing. Laurel (10-
1) were the defending state champs. The Locos had a 17-
game winning streak snapped. Laurel’s lone score came
in the second quarter on Beau Dantic’s 3-yard run.
Florence won its first Class B title with a shutout
win over Western B foe Bigfork, 42-0. The Falcons won
the State Class C title in 1977 with another unbeaten
season. The Falcons went 12-0 this year while outscoring
their opponents 516-87. They had only 15 points scored
against them in the playoffs.
Quarterback Pat Duchien threw three TD passes
and ran in one to lead the Falcons. He had TD passes of
19, 19 and 10-yards and ran in a 10-yarder. The senior
quarterback was 18 for 23 in passing for 271 yards.
Tristan Pyette rushed for 148 yards. Bigfork (9-4) was
held to 177 total yards. The Vikings had a remarkable
run, winning three games on the road.
In another state championship between two
Western Division foes, Thompson Falls won its first
title since 1975 with a 40-8 blowout against defending
champs Flint Creek. The Blue Hawks senior standout
Ryan Bucher had TD runs of 15, 40 and 53-yards. They
led 14-6 at the half then scored 26 unanswered points in
the second half.
Thompson Falls finished with a 13-0 record while
Flint Creek was 10-1. The two teams never met during
the regular season despite being in the same division.
I had four of the games predicted right. I had Sentinel to
win, Hamilto by 7, Florence by 21, Flint Creek to edge
Thompson Falls and Froid-Lake to win.
