Dear School Administration,

Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Erlyn Dumali, as we discussed on our project proposal, our
goal is to facilitate recycling. Help our recycling program succeed by properly separating recyclables from
garbage.

Recycling is good for our school and the environment. It creates jobs and keeps valuable resources
away from landfills. Making new products from recycled materials also saves energy and reduces pollution.

A school recycling effort may assist stakeholders understand where all that rubbish goes and that it
doesn't just 'go away.' It is critical to bring landfills to the notice of future generations since they will be the
ones who must deal with the repercussions.

Teaching about landfills and recycling is a terrific method to portray everyone in a better light. It's
an opportunity to inform them that 80 percent of the rubbish in our landfills might be recycled and utilized
to make new items. Some schools may be concerned about adopting another program due to budget
limitations, but recycling at the school level teaches everyone a practical lesson while also being
economical and efficient, and in some cases even generating revenue to help maintain the initiative.

School Recyclables
Paper is the most important cost-saving waste reduction among recycled school products.
Consider how much paper a school consumes. As a result, paper accounts for 50 to 60% of classroom trash.
Paper has the advantage of being able to be reused or recycled. School paper expenditures are greatly
reduced when paper is utilized on both sides and completely as scratch paper or for producing copies. The
following materials are commonly recycled:

GLASS BOTTLES: Softdrinks, cutchup, glass cullets (bubog) and etc.

PLASTICS: Mineral water bottles, softdrinks, plastic cups, basins, conatiners, hard plastics, CD and etc.

SCRAP PAPER: Used bondpaper, old notebooks, old books, old newspapers, periodicals, cartons and
cardboards, colored wasted paper and etc.

METALS: Tin and aluminum cans, metal frames, stainless and etc.
Planning
 Do a survey of how many people are involved (students and employees);
 Check the amount of garbage generated daily and determined a place to store recyclables until
they are collected;
 Determine where the recyclable material will be sent: if it will be donated to a cooperative of
scavengers, whether it is sold, who will collect and how often. Do not start a selective collection
program without knowing where to solve the material;
 Do only selective collection of material that can be sent to recycling;
 Develop a communication program of selective collection and community mobilization, that
everyone knows how and why to participate;
 Follow up the collection recyclables, its storing, its donation;

 Make a periodic review of the school recycling program and disseminate the results to the
community;
 Always continue the mobalization program.
 People involved: students, teachers, secretaries and janitor.
 Quality/amount of garbage generated weekly;
 Paper to be discarded from classroom use, teachers’ room use, and offices use;
 Place to store recyclables;
 2 or 3 cardboard boxes decorated by the children: one in the canteen area, another near the
restrooms, and the third one near the school head office.
 The recyclable material will be solid in junk shops within the municipality;

 The communication program of selective collection and school mobilization comprises: posters
and leaflets prepared by the children.

Implementation
 Find the necessary equipment;
 Train the people involved with the school recycling (cleaning personnel, employees, students, for
example);
 Start the communication and mobilization campaign;
 Inaugurate the school recycling program with an event (video presentation, lecture).
 Hands-on recycling activities.
