OPERATION
The automatic mains / generator changeover panel monitors the mains supply and in a failure
situation transfers the load from the mains to a standby generator supply. On return of the mains
supply the switch reverts to its original position.

The panel will automatically start the main electric fire pumpset upon receipt of a signal from the
system pressure switch which has been triggered due to falling pressure even though the jockey
pumpset has been previously started. Initiation can also be achieved from other sources such as
remote pushbutton, flow switch and deluge valve. It will continue to run until shut down manually

PANEL Design
The Panel is designed for fire pump service in accordance with the requirements of National Fire
Protection Association rules NFPA20 to provide monitoring, alternate supply load transfer and start up
of the electric pumpset and alarm indication of any problems. The equipment is FM approved and / or
UL listed.

A supply of 380 – 415v 3ph 50hz is required which is monitored on each phase for undervoltage, and
when one or more phase drops below a pre-set level a contact actuates the engine starting circuit and
when the alternate source is available the transfer switch automatically changes over supply. The
motor control circuit is de-energised for a short period prior to changeover in either direction to prevent
high current transients due to an out of phase condition.

The reduced voltage star delta open transition starter reduces inrush current to 33% of normal in the
star connection. The starter then connects winding in a delta configuration applying full voltage and
drawing full running current. The open transition switchover from star to delta connection can result in
a momentary peak current up to or above the across the line inrush current.

An Operator Interface Device (OID) is fitted with 4 lines by 20 character backlit display and 10
pushbuttons for easy screen navigation which enables full programming of settings and operation of
the starter. LED lamp test, alarm reset, controller test and horn silencing are also accessed through
this OID.

The system status data (including system pressure, phase to phase voltage, phase current, current
time & date, system events and notifications such as remote / local start etc, number of starts, total
hours run, time remaining on sequential start, etc) is displayed on the OID.

The microprocessor based logic with real time / date clock has capability of minimum 14 day running
without AC power.

Data logging carried out in two separate storage logs for pressure and events for up to 30 days is
readable through OID or available on an SD memory card.

Volt free changeover contacts provided for

- Pump running - Phase reversal
- Loss of phase - Pump failed to start
- Transfer of supply

All wiring terminates at clearly labelled termination points. Wiring between the panel and other
equipment is not of our supply

Enclosure
All the components are housed in a dust and damp protecting two section sheet steel NEMA 2
enclosure having a hinged interlocked front covers. The enclosure is freestanding with 12” legs and
designed for bottom cable entry.
