Introduction
Mostofthestudentsdon'trealizethenegativeeffectsimpacts

arealreadyaddictedtoit.And,thisaddictioncanleadtoseveral
negative developments.
FacebookisasocialnetworkingservicelaunchedinFebruary

Facebook has over one billion active users, more than half of
themusingFacebookonamobiledevice.Usersmustregisterbefore
using the site, after which they may create a personal profile,
add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including
automatic notifications when they update their profile.
Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups,
organized by workplace, school or college, or other
characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such
as "People From Work" or "Close Friends".

positive effects, but they also have their share of negative
impact.
Conducted to the ICT students of Carlos F. Gonzales and was
asked a few questions about their usage of Facebook and on how
it has affected their academic performances. To ensure honesty
of their answers, the survey questions asked to them were
anonymous and confidential and will not be used against than in

Foreign literature
According to Newman, (2014) they get distraction from their

This will lead to results that are poor and decrease the
achievements. Some studies show the attitudes, interests of
students to the internet and their activities vary with their
sex, personality traits and age. Cultural backgrounds and
characteristics differences give the suggestion that there is

(2014) indicates that the study on whether Facebook use by
students affects their academic results, hence doing a
theoretical background review and depicted the research model

AccordingtoNegussie&Ketema(2014)impactofusingFacebook
while accessing through different devices. Among a variety of
devices,itwasfoundthatthecorrelationbetweenusingFacebook
on mobile devices and students’ grades is highly negative as
comparedtousingFacebookonotherdevices.Thisadverseeffect
is explained by the fact that using cellphones for social
networkingactivitiesmayinvolvemultitaskingandallstudents
are not equally efficient in multitasking skills. The study
suggests, that students must be encouraged to use social
networking sites for educational purposes instead of blocking
these platforms in the educational premises.
According to Ul Haq & Chand (2012) the usage and popularity
of famous social media network (Facebook) among university
students with special focus on the gender based comparison and
the impact of the selected social medium on their academic
performance. The two researchers evaluate the pattern and
frequency of Facebook use among university students while

He further adds that although time spent on social media and
academicperformanceisnegativelycorrelated,thisrelationship
in real world scenarios does not seem to be a major hurdle in
academic success.
One of the very significant findings of the study is about the
use of social networking sites for the purpose of learning.

Chand (2014) conducted an investigation on the popularity of

Theoretical Framework
This Research will be based with the different theories or
otherresearchesdonebyseveraltheoristsabouttheeffectsof
Facebook usage this research will also stress an impacts done
by Facebooks in the academic performance of the ICT students of
Carlos F Gonzales High School.
Social Capital is related to improved Self-esteem fewer
Psychological and behavioral problems and improved quality of
life (McPherson et at 2014)
Furthermore, increased social capital can help student feel
more of connection to their institution, which is related to
morepositiveeducationoutcomes(cascarillasTerenzini,2015.
StudentsuseFacebooktomaintaintheirformernetworkofhigh
school friend on their campuses (Ellison et al,2016 2017 June
Mastradicasa, 2016).
They use Facebook to initiate and maintain friendships and
to seek out new information about those on their social circle
(Ellison et al, 2016)
The practice of social information seeking is related to
studentperceivedlevelofsocialcapitaltheresourcesobtained
fromtheirrelationshipandinteractionsuchasemotionalsupport
(Ellison et al, 2017.)
This research considered that there can also be an equal
importance of path parties in the academic field and also the
social field of the students. The student would still have to
maintenanceofconnectionswiththeiroldaswellasthenewset
of friendships. They want to stay connected and get updates of
their friend. They want could engage in and prolonging the use
of Facebook.
This social networking has a good effect on students in the
field of academics because it can be sometimes academically
engaging and has positive effect to student esteem and society
capital.
This research is considered in the impact of Facebook usage
to the students’ academic performance of the ICT students of
Carlos F. Gonzales High School in the school year 2019-2020.
Theprofileoftherespondentsincludedageandgenderofthe
students being surveyed. The research determined the academic
performance of the students in relation to the effect in using
Facebook.
The outcome of the research proposed is through the survey

Method of research
The impact of Facebook to the academic performance of ICT
students of Carlos F Gonzales high school is quantitative type
of research or an objective systematic empirical investigation
of observation of observable phenomenon through the use of
computational techniques. It highlights numerical analysis of
data hoping to provide unbiased results.
Research Design
It uses the most applicable quantitative type of research
design the non-Experimental and this design may also called as
descriptive research design. It’s main purpose is to observe
describe, and document aspects of a situation as it naturally
occursandsometimestoserveasastartingpointforhypothesis
generation or theory development.

a fairly equal representation of the variables for the study.
The stratification was based on Carlos F Gonzales high school
among ICT students. The proportionate stratification random
sampling technique was employed to select 40 students in ICT
strand. The proportionate stratification was based on the fact
that facebook has impact to ICT students’ academic performance
that the researchers aimed to distinguish.
Toanalyzeandinterpretthedataeffectively,theresearchers
used the following statistical treatment, the percentage and
