BACKGROUND:
An incorrect reference was identified in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) maintenance procedure (MP) ATR-A-26-12-
60-00ZZZ-281Z-A “Scheduled Inspection of the Engine Fire Detection Loops”, concerning a visual inspection of the fire handles
snap wire. This condition, if not detected and corrected, combined with an engine fire, could lead to a failure of the engine fire
handle to operate, possibly resulting in an uncontrolled engine fire and reduced control of the aero plane. To address this
potential unsafe condition, Engineering Order is issued in reference to the AOM 2021/12 Issue 1 to provide inspection instructions.
For the reasons described above, this Engineering Order requires a one-time visual inspection of the installation of the fire
handles, and, depending on findings, accomplishment of applicable corrective action(s).

DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this inspection to prevent the failure of the engine fire handle to operate that will result in an uncontrolled
engine fire handle and reduced control of the aero plane.

MODE OF COMPLIANCE:

COMPLIANCE:
Task Description: ATA 26 – FIRE PROTECTION – ENGINE FIRE HANDLES SNAP WIRE - INSPECTION
Initial Compliance: Within 7 calendar days from the effective date of this AD, accomplish a one-time visual
inspection of both engine fire handle in accordance with the instructions of Appendix 1 of this engineering order

Grace period of safety seal installation only: In case of shortage, it is allowed to defer the
installation of the safety/guarantee seal required up to 750 FH or 6 Months, whichever occurs first.

Subsequent Action: Within 30 days after the inspection, provide ATR with the reporting provided in Appendix 2
Conditional Compliance: None.
Terminating Action: None.

A. GENERAL INFORMATION: CAUTION: KEEP THE WORK AREA, WIRES AND ELECTRICAL
BUNDLES CLEAN OF METAL PARTICLES OR CONTAMINATION WHEN YOU USE TOOLS.
UNWANTED MATERIALS, METAL PARTICLES OR CONTAMINATION CAUGHT IN WIRE BUNDLES.
DAMAGED WIRE BUNDLES CAN CAUSE SPARK OR OTHER ELECTRICAL DAMAGE.

B. WORK ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTION

PART I – INSPECTION PROCEDURE OF ENGINE FIRE HANDLE SNAP WIRE

1. Inspect that the ENGINE NO. 1 (7WD) and ENGINE NO. 2 (8WD) fire handles are pushed in
and attached with a Snap wire (CML N° 05101A or 05101B or P.N. MS20995CY15) as shown
on picture below.

Note: the Snap wire could be as described as N° 05101A (Aluminum dia. 1mm) or CML N°
05101B (Copper dia. 0.3mm) or P/N MS20995CY15 (Copper)

SUBJECT: FIRE PROTECTION - INSPECTION OF ENGINE FIRE HANDLES SNAP WIRE

2. In case the fire handle is not attached with Snap wire (CML N° 05101A or 05101B), but with
Lock wire (CML N° 05077A):

2.1 Cut and remove the Lock wire

2.2 Perform Snap wire installation as per MP ATR-A-26-12-80-A0001-720A-A.

A. Make sure that the engine fire handle is pushed in.

B. Install the 05101A (snap wire Al. annealed 1 mm Dia. (0.04 in.)) that attaches the hold plate
and the handle.

C. Install a Safety Seal at the end of the 05101A (snap wire Al. annealed 1 mm Dia. (0.04 in.)).

D. . Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
