Motivation – Usage of Dock Appointment Scheduling and
SCO

Using user-optimized UIs of Dock Appointment Scheduling to support the

transportation planning in EWM in a graphical way

Dock Appointment Scheduling is useful for …

… Transport planning in EWM with deliveries that have a route with no departure
schedule. That means the deliveries have no exact route departure times (just a
departure date).

Dock Appointment Scheduling not needed for ..,.

… Regular routes (routes with departure schedule)

Reason: Long-term agreement with a carrier, arrival and departure times are fixed.

… Transportation planning done in TM / ERP

Reason: Planned times and the carrier are already set in TM / ERP.

Outbound: “Pick to Stage” and “Pick to Load”

• Pick to Stage

An outbound process where the process from pick planning to staging has to start before
the truck arrives. You have to assign the staging area, and by extension, the door, to the
transportation unit early in the process

• Pick to Load

An outbound process where the process from pick planning to loading can be completed
after the transportation unit arrives at the checkpoint. You can assign the door to the
transportation unit late in the process, after the truck arrives at the checkpoint.

Demo

Outbound process with transport planning and staging area planning (pick-to-stage)

Steps:

 TU creation and assignment of a group of deliveries in the Shipping Cockpit (SCO)

 Deliveries have no exact route departure time (just a departure date) and a staging area group assigned
(but no area and no bay)

 Automatic creation of a provisional appointment (with staging area block duration and in-yard duration)

 Assigning carrier and determination of an appropriate time slot for the provisional appointment
Alternative: This step can also be done in SCO using the capacity overview and the change TU feature

 Update of TU (carrier, planned times, status planned times fixed)

 Update deliveries (route departure date (= TOUTYARD))

 Assigning staging bay to TU (= staging area planning)
