Third Quarter /Week 1/ Day 1
OBJECTIVE: Distinguish text types according to purpose and language features---Enumeration.
YOUR LESSON FOR TODAY: Distinguishing text types according to purpose and language
features—Enumeration.
Distinguish is to recognize something as different, perceive or to point out a difference. In
a simple term it is to differentiate or to tell the difference between. According to the Cambridge, it
is to notice or understand between two things, or to make one person or thing seem different
from another.
Text types are written for a variety of purposes using different forms and standards of
making it.
There are two kinds of text types, Factual and Literary. Factual text types include
information about factual description, recount or persuasive. Literary text includes poetry,
narrative or personal response.

Factual text Literary text

Biography, booklet, brochure, form, Poem, novel, drama, fable, fairytale,
instruction, interview, invitation, letter, legends, lyrics, narrative, radio drama,
menu, message, news, news article, picture stories, science fiction
agenda

Enumeration is a rhetorical devise used for listing details, or a process of mentioning

words or phrases step by step. In fact, it is a type of example or division in which a subject is
further distributed into components or parts. Writers use enumeration to explain a topic, to make
it understandable for the readers. It also helps avoid ambiguity in the minds of the reader.
For example, on the factual text, a recipe is needed if you are going to prepare on how to
cook Pancit Bihon. What are the things needed to prepare? You will notice that you need a
recipe in order for you to be guided on the things that you are going to do, in short you need to
be familiar with the list to enumerate the procedure so that you will not be misled in cooking.
On the Literary text, for example in the story about the “Rabbit and the Turtle” what are the
details why the rabbit was defeated, in order to understand the cause or the reason you are
going to enumerate by listing the reasons by 1 to 6, or you may use a bullet point, or a graphic
organizer that will show you the reason.

text types by listing the reasons why the hen peck the ground.

“The Hawk and the Hen”

Mabel Cook Cole

A hawk flying about in the sky one day decided that he would like to marry a hen whom he
often saw on earth. He flew down and searched until he found her, and then asked her to
become his wife. She at once agreed as long as he would wait until she could grow wings like
his, so that she might also fly high. The hawk agreed to this and flew away, after giving her a ring
as an engagement present and telling her to take good care of it.

The hen was very proud of the ring and placed it around her neck. The next day, however,
she met the cockerel who looked at her in astonishment and said, “Where did you get that ring?
Do you not know that you promised to be my wife? You must not wear the ring of anyone else.
Throw it away.” The hen threw away the beautiful ring.

GradeLevel:______________________________ Teacher:________________________

Not long after this the hawk came down bringing beautiful feathers to dress the hen. When
she saw him coming, she was frightened and ran to hide behind the door, but the hawk called to
her to come and see the beautiful dress he had brought her.
The hen came out, and the hawk at once saw that the ring was gone.

“Where is the ring I gave you?” He asked. “Why do you not wear it?”

The hen was too frightened and ashamed to tell the truth so she answered, “Oh, sir,
yesterday when I was walking in the garden, I met a large snake and he frightened me so that I
ran as fast as I could to the house. Then I missed the ring and I searched everywhere but could
not find it.”

The hawk looked sharply at the hen, and he knew that she was deceiving him.

He said to her, “I did not believe that you could behave so badly. When you have found
the ring, I will come down again and make you my wife. But as a punishment for breaking your
promise, you must always scratch the ground to look for the ring. Every chicken of yours that I
find, I shall snatch away.”

Then he flew away, and ever since all the hens throughout the world have been scratching to find
the hawk’s ring.

Reasons: Why the hen peck the ground?

MODULE IN ENGLISH 6
Third Quarter /Week 1/ Day 4

OBJECTIVE: Provide evidence to support an opinion

YOUR LESSON FOR TODAY:

Providing evidence to support an opinion.

Evidence is anything that you see, experience, read, or a rare told that causes you to
believe that something is true or has really happened. On the other hand, in a court setting
most often than not we heard this word, it is used in a court of law to try to prove something
and it is obtained from documents, objects or witnesses.
Evidence may include the claims, facts and figures, graphs, statics, surveys,
experiment, etc. as the core sources to support your opinion. Adding evidence in your
opinionated write-up helps the student to conceptualize and textually imply in writing. It
serves as the base to convince the readers of your opinion backed up by evidence.

Opinion writing tends to increase an author's thinking and persuasive capabilities. It

requires an author to butter the context with evidence to back up his opinion. To convince,
your target audience with your opinion, ensure proper usage of keywords.
Opinions are supported by reasons. Use facts, details, and examples to explain and
elaborate on how your reasons support an opinion.
Opinions that are written or spoken that are not supported by facts hold very little
value to an educated audience. It is a mere reaction or point of view of a person. It is neither
right or wrong it cannot be checked or proven. So, when you are trying to assert your opinion
you best be sure to have a compilation of evidence. To insure, that you are properly armed
with facts make sure to always research what you are saying or writing about.

There are Many Ways of Scattering the Seeds

There are many ways of scattering the seeds. Some seeds are scattered by water.
They carried away by rivers, streams, seas or ocean waves.
Other seeds are carried by the wind. The seeds have parts that serve like wings, or
parachutes.
Some plants can scatter their own seeds. The fruits of these plants crack or split. The
seeds then shot away from parent plant, even to long distances.

Why are Forests Important?

Forests are very important to people. Many different kinds of plants and trees grow in the
forests. People get wood for fuel and lumber for houses from the forest. They get food from the
plants and trees. They also get other things like rubber, wax, rattan and bamboo from the forest.
The plants and trees in the forest help stop floods. They take water through their roots.
Dead leaves cover the ground. When it rains, the leaves on the ground and the roots hold the
soil in place. Water can then carry very little soil down the mountainside.
Forests are also home of many animals and birds. Most of these animals and birds help
man. They kill harmful insects and animal pests like rats and mice. Man needs some of the
animals and birds for foods.

The Framework of the Body

The skeleton, like the body it supports, have three principal parts- the head, the trunk and
the limbs. The bones of the head are joined together to form the skull. In the trunk or middle
section of the body framework are the backbone or spinal column, the ribs and the breastbone.
The bones of the arms and the legs form the limbs. The limbs have bones of different lengths
and sizes.
The skeleton or framework functions in several ways. First, it helps to give form and shape
to the body. Second, it provides a place for muscles to be fastened so that with the use of the
muscles and bones together, we can hold ourselves upright or erect and move about. Third, the
skull helps to protect delicate parts of the body such as the brain, the eyes and the ears.
