I agree with the enactment of this law.

Republic Act 9225 or the Citizenship


Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003 and also known as the Dual Citizenship Law
let a previously natural-born Filipinos that was naturalized citizens of foreign country
to keep and reacquire their Filipino citizenship by taking an oath of allegiance to the
Republic of the Philippines to a Philippine Consular Officer. After retaining and
reacquiring their Filipino citizenship, they shall enjoy full civil, economic and political
rights as Filipinos. This law provides that after retaining or reacquiring your citizenship
in the Philippines, you be entitled to enjoy your civil, economic and political rights,
subject to all attendant liabilities and responsibilities under existing laws of the
Philippines under existing Philippine laws. You can also live in the country for as long
as you want without the need for entry visa and can decide to retire and permanently
live in the country. Under this law there’s no need to renounce his US citizenship.
Other rights includes the right to travel with a Philippine passport, the right to
own real property in the Philippines, the right to engage in business and commerce as a
Filipino; and the right to practice one’s profession, provided that a license or permit to
engage in such practice is obtained from the Professional Regulation Commission or the
Supreme Court for lawyers. The right also to vote in the Philippine national elections in
relation with Overseas Absentee Voting Act of 2003. Also your foreign spouse will be
eligible for an immigrant visa and enjoy all other right and privileges enjoyed by a
Filipino citizens.
According also to this law if the child were born in the Philippines and at least
one of his or her parent is still a Filipino at the time of the child’s birth, he or she may
file his own application for dual citizenship under Republic Act 9225. Also, if he was
born in the United States and both of the parents are already naturalized US citizen at
the time of birth, he or she can apply for a Recognition of Filipino Citizenship at the
Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines. If the child is born in the United States and at
least one of the parent is still a Filipino at the time of the child’s birth, he can apply for a
Report of Birth of a Filipino Abroad at the Philippine Embassy or at the Consulate
which has the power and jurisdiction over the place of birth. 

With all of these rights mentioned as specified with the said law, a person who
wishes to enjoy the right a Filipino citizen can enjoy is possible after all their parents is a
Filipino. Also those who previously renounced their Filipino citizenship can always
retain their citizenship here if they decide to come back in the country and finally settle.
