A lesson plan for the 7th grade

Topic: Health Highlights: Covid-19

Objectives: to teach topic vocabulary; to teach to pronounce new words; to teach to identify the
new vocabulary; to teach topic reading; to revise the grammar material: be allowed to do
something, the modal verb have to; to teach to deal with the texts (to identify the key information);
to teach topic speaking (make the lockdown rules); to develop listening, reading, writing and
speaking skills; to teach to be positive about the situation.

Tools: audio, an interactive white board, flashcards, texts for reading.

A Plan

I. Greetings - How do you feel today?

II. Warm up - Some people say that laughter (сміх) is good medicine. Do you agree?

III. Topic announcement - Dear children, our lesson will be devoted to the topic of Covid-19
disease, so you’re going to learn new vocabulary, read the blog,revise some grammar, speak
on the rules we should keep to stay healthy and stop spreading the disease. So let’s get it
started, shall we?

IV. Vocabulary. Pronunciation

Listen how the words are pronounced, repeat them and match to the pictures. (Emergency,
crowded, virus, coronavirus, Covid-19, self isolation) (See appendix)
V. Physical activity

VI. Reading. Vocabulary

1. Read the words in bold on Naomi's blog and guess their meaning. Match the words with
the proper definitions.

1. Alone, without any help.

2. People stay at home so as not to spread the disease.

3. Staying away from crowded places.

4. You can do it.

5. The time when people stay at home to keep away from other people.

2. Read Naomi’s blog and do the tasks below.


A. Hello! My name’s Naomi and I want to show my life in lockdown. Here in the UK, the
lockdown started a week ago. This means that we have to stay at home most of our
time. We are allowed to go to the supermarket to buy some food once a day.

B. You have to keep a social distance of two metres from other people when you are out.
Also you have to wear a face mask.

C. My mom is a nurse, so she goes to work every day. My dad works from home.

D. I went to school before the quarantine, so my life has changed a lot recently. At first it
was difficult for me. I really miss my friends so we chat every day. I also have to study a
lot by myself.

However, the positive thing about it is that we spend more time together with my family.

VII. Grammar: writing

Read the phrases and decide whether you are allowed to do it or not, use be allowed to
do smth.

( do some sports, go outside without the emergency reason, go out without wearing a face
mask, do shopping once a day, stay in a crowded place, stay at home and read some books)

VIII. Speaking: the lockdown rules

Read the phrases and make the rules of the lockdown. Speak on the rules using the verb
have to /don’t have to.

(Do some sports, do some shopping, wash hands, take the vitamins, stay in crowded
places, stay at home, go outside without the emergency, wear a face mask, get enough of
sleep, eat healthy food)

IX. H/W -learn the new vocabulary, write the comments to Naomi’s blog.
